El Salvador’s draft general budget for 2027 amounts to US$12,421 million, 17.7% more than the budget approved for 2026. The increase may seem like good news, but a larger budget does not by itself guarantee water, food, health or care. To know whether it will improve the lives of those who need support and of those who provide it, it is necessary to examine three issues: how much is actually allocated to care, whether the budgetary response corresponds to the climate crisis, and whether the resources can be turned into effective services. — El proyecto de presupuesto general de El Salvador para 2027 asciende a US$12.421 millones, un 17,7 % más que el aprobado para 2026. El aumento puede parecer una buena noticia, pero un presupuesto mayor no garantiza por sí solo agua, alimentos, salud ni cuidados.Para saber si mejorará la vida de quienes necesitan apoyo y de quienes lo brindan, es necesario examinar tres asuntos: cuánto se destina realmente a los cuidados, si la respuesta presupuestaria corresponde a la crisis climática y si los recursos podrán convertirse en servicios efectivos.
