Doctors who work at DoctorSV denounced alleged practices of workplace harassment, intimidating treatment and restrictions on their working conditions at the San Miguel office. The allegations were made through the “Dr. Salvador Allende” Health Movement of the Latin American Association of Social Medicine (ALAMES) El Salvador. This is the second complaint by the platform’s workers to be channeled through ALAMES.

The workers expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of the female supervisors and of the team of collaborating doctors, which are allegedly affecting their peace of mind and professional performance.

Among the situations the workers face are the calling of meetings during lunch hours, verbal abuse and the reduction of the time allotted for breaks. They also denounced alleged abuse of authority through the issuance of disciplinary reports that are used as mechanisms of intimidation and to threaten the continuity of their contracts.

The doctors also objected to being prohibited from using cell phones while some supervisors spend part of the workday checking social media and carrying out personal activities.

In light of these allegations, they requested an impartial and confidential investigation, an evaluation of the performance and profile of the supervisory staff and collaborators in San Miguel, as well as a review of disciplinary proceedings that they consider unjustified.

In addition, they demanded corrective measures for the behaviors that affect the organizational climate, and guarantees of a dignified work environment.

They denounce night shifts without transportation

The grievances of DoctorSV staff nationwide also include schedule changes, rotations between groups and shifts whose end time can extend until 12:00 midnight, without the company providing transportation for their return home.

According to the workers, these changes make it difficult for them to get around and create uncertainty about their working conditions. For this reason, they asked the Ministry of Labor to carry out nighttime inspections at the company’s facilities to verify the conditions under which staff finish their shifts.

The complainants also questioned new rules attributed to a boss who had allegedly been sent from the Presidential House (CAPRES). Among the measures mentioned is a ban on keeping water bottles, sweaters and other belongings on the desks, on the grounds that they affect the aesthetic image in front of investors.

The doctors expressed their dissatisfaction with these restrictions because of the low temperatures maintained by the air-conditioning systems. They asserted that the cold even causes numbness in their fingers and difficulty typing and performing their duties.

Likewise, they pointed to alleged unequal treatment, as they claim that while they are restricted from using sweaters at the desks, other people who set the measures do wear these garments during the workday.

Another of the DoctorSV workers’ complaints concerns the length of the workday. The doctors indicated that they remain at their posts for nine hours to complete eight effective hours of work, because an additional hour corresponds to the lunch period, which they assert is unpaid.

The workers described this rule as “illegal and arbitrary” and asked that the competent authorities verify its application.

They also questioned the supervision mechanisms, asserting that aspects such as the number of times staff go to the bathroom and the time devoted to attending to users are monitored.

“They are worse than any maquila,” the complainants said, referring to the working conditions they assert they face within the company.

In addition, they expressed concern about staff turnover and maintained that this dynamic could financially benefit the private company in charge of hiring new workers.

The allegations were disseminated through the “Dr. Salvador Allende” Health Movement, which has made the workers’ grievances known.
