Long lines and the lack of some products make shopping difficult at the Aguilares agromarket, in San Salvador Norte, according to a shopper who told Radio YSUCA that she has opted to buy vegetables elsewhere, even if that means spending more money.

The consumer states that, on some occasions, she has not found products such as onions and tomatoes. She also asserts that she has seen people buying large quantities. She added that she sees a supply shortage, although she said she does not know the causes of the lack of some foods. “Once I went for tomatoes and one of the employees told me there were no more tomatoes, and there actually were,” she recounted.

Added to these difficulties are food prices at other points of sale. The shopper believes that the increase in the prices of basic food staples continues to affect household finances, and she questions the lack of responses to this situation. “How high are these prices going to go?” she questioned.

As an alternative, she explained that she now buys vegetables from vendors who travel around her area in private vehicles. However, she indicated that the quantities she gets for one dollar are limited, so she must adjust her purchases to her financial means.

The complaint adds to other reports about the supply at the agromarkets that were raised during the program Hora 10, on Radio YSUCA. One person complained that they had stood in line for three hours to buy onions at the Apopa agromarket, but there were no longer any available. They described the situation as “an injustice,” because the resellers are selling the onions at two for a dollar.

The consumer believes that the difficulties in buying food at the agromarket end up reducing the benefit of the savings, because of the time she must spend in line and the possibility of not finding the products she is looking for.

“They should set low prices in all the markets, (…); At the international level they hold El Salvador up high, but the reality we live here is different,” she emphasized.
