The Movement of Victims of the Regime (MOVIR) requested that the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDDH) verify the health situation of persons deprived of liberty during the state of exception.

According to MOVIR, since 2022, meetings have been held with representatives of the PDDH, and formal requests have been made for cases of persons deprived of liberty with health problems to be investigated, regarding prison conditions, access to information, and events related to people who died in State custody.

Samuel Ramírez, spokesperson for MOVIR, said that the requests to the PDDH were made given the lack of response from Ombudsman Raquel Caballero de Guevara regarding the verifications in detention centers.

MOVIR requests that the health status, medications, treatments, specialized care, and hospital transfers of persons deprived of liberty be verified individually, with special attention to those who have chronic illnesses or disabilities.

In addition, it expressed concern about the deaths in various prisons in the country, and the importance of strengthening the investigation and documentation of the cases.

Regarding convictions in collective or mass proceedings, MOVIR requests that the cases in which there are indications of possible violations of due process be verified. It stressed that they are not requesting that legitimate convictions be disregarded, but they are requesting that the cases be reviewed individually.
