The internal crisis in Vamos deepened on Sunday after the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) extended by six months the term of the leadership headed by Cesia Rivas, while a faction linked to lawmaker Claudia Ortiz held a National Assembly that appointed party authorities.
Rivas shared with Diario El Mundo part of a TSE resolution that extends the term of Vamos’ National Executive Council (CEN) by six months. According to the secretary general, the resolution was issued on Saturday, September 26, one day after the term for which the current leadership was elected officially ended.
The resolution also orders the registration of the Permanent Electoral Commission (CEP) that Rivas submitted to the TSE this week, made up of Sandra López as president, Fredy Blanco as secretary and Fátima López as a member. This body will be responsible for running the internal elections to choose the party authorities.
The TSE’s decision became public on the same Sunday that another faction of Vamos held a National Assembly called by seven party secretaries, including Ortiz. According to the party’s communications team, that meeting formed a CEP made up of Sandra Barillas, Sandra López, Jacob Montano and Victor Chicas, as well as a Disciplinary Court of Honor composed of Melvin Barrera, Sandra Cañada and Carlos Ramírez.
Ortiz defended the legitimacy of the call for the assembly and questioned previous meetings because, she argued, they did not meet “the necessary statutory requirements,” “because that collegiate body was formed by excluding members who are entitled to be part of it. Specifically, two members of the National Executive Council, who have never submitted their resignation and have not received notification of a National Assembly resolution informing them that they have been replaced in their posts on grounds of inactivity or failure to pay party dues, when there are two other people who were included in those meetings despite being in quite similar situations.”
The lawmaker also rejected the validity of the assembly linked to Rivas and of the registration submitted to the TSE.
“Our position is that anyone who has been elected by the membership as a party authority, regardless of what their political position has been or whether or not they have supported the leadership, has the right to take part in these meetings; therefore, those meetings that resulted in that general assembly and that registration we saw this week are not valid because they were not carried out under the procedures set out in the statutes,” Ortiz insisted.
The dispute comes after the internal leadership elections, scheduled for September 22, were suspended following the resignation of two CEP members. Rivas then went to the TSE to submit the new composition of that commission and to request a ruling on the term of the current leadership.
Rivas said the request to the electoral body was meant to “put an end to the lies” that she wants to “impose herself or stay in office by force.” She also submitted to the TSE the list of 60 candidates to serve as lawmakers in the Legislative Assembly, including Ortiz, and candidates for 15 municipal councils, ratified as a result of the internal elections held in July 2026.
The confrontation continues to divide the main figures of Vamos, an opposition party that holds one of the 60 seats in the Legislative Assembly. Ortiz also released a video this weekend giving her version of the internal crisis and of what she says are plans to push her out of the party, while defending the call for the extraordinary assembly based on Article 24 of the statutes.

La crisis interna de Vamos se profundizó este domingo luego de que el Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) prorrogara por seis meses las funciones de la dirigencia encabezada por Cesia Rivas, mientras un sector vinculado a la diputada Claudia Ortiz realizó una Asamblea Nacional que nombró autoridades partidarias.
Rivas compartió con Diario El Mundo parte de una resolución del TSE que amplía por seis meses el período de funciones del Consejo Ejecutivo Nacional (CEN) de Vamos. Según la secretaria general, la resolución fue emitida el sábado 26 de septiembre, un día después de que finalizara oficialmente el período para el cual fue electa la actual dirigencia.
La resolución también ordena inscribir la Comisión Electoral Permanente (CEP) presentada esta semana por Rivas ante el TSE, integrada por Sandra López como presidenta, Fredy Blanco como secretario y Fátima López como vocal. Este organismo deberá administrar las elecciones internas para elegir a las autoridades partidarias.
La decisión del TSE se conoció el mismo domingo en que otro sector de Vamos desarrolló una Asamblea Nacional convocada por siete secretarios, incluida Ortiz. Según el equipo de comunicaciones del partido, en esa reunión se conformó una CEP integrada por Sandra Barillas, Sandra López, Jacob Montano y Victor Chicas, así como un Tribunal de Honor Disciplinario formado por Melvin Barrera, Sandra Cañada y Carlos Ramírez.
Ortiz defendió la legitimidad de la convocatoria y cuestionó reuniones anteriores porque, según sostuvo, no reunieron «los requisitos estatutarios necesarios», «porque la integración de ese órgano colegiado se dio excluyendo a miembros con derecho de formar parte de él. Específicamente dos miembros del Consejo Ejecutivo Nacional, quienes nunca han presentado su renuncia y tampoco han recibido una notificación de resolución de Asamblea Nacional donde se les notifique que han sido sustituidos del cargo por argumentos de inactividad, falta de cuotas partidarias cuando hay otras dos personas que fueron incluidas en dichas reuniones estando en situaciones bastante similares».
La diputada también rechazó la validez de la asamblea vinculada a Rivas y de la inscripción presentada ante el TSE.
«Nuestra posición es que cualquier persona que ha sido electa por la militancia por autoridad partidaria independientemente cual ha sido su posición política o su apoyo o no a la dirigencia tiene derecho a participar en estas reuniones, por lo tanto esas reuniones que dieron como desenlace esa asamblea general y esa inscripción que vimos esta semana no tienen validez porque no fueron realizadas bajo los procedimientos que los estatutos establecen”, insistió Ortiz.
La disputa ocurre después de que las elecciones internas de la dirigencia, programadas para el 22 de septiembre, fueran suspendidas tras la renuncia de dos integrantes de la CEP. Rivas acudió posteriormente al TSE para presentar la nueva conformación de esa comisión y solicitar un pronunciamiento sobre el período de funciones de la dirigencia actual.
Rivas sostuvo que la solicitud al organismo electoral buscaba «quitar mentiras» de que ella quiere «imponerse o seguir en el cargo a la fuerza». Además, presentó ante el TSE el listado de 60 candidatos a diputados de la Asamblea Legislativa, incluida Ortiz, y candidatos a 15 concejos municipales ratificados como resultado de las elecciones internas celebradas en julio de 2026.
El enfrentamiento mantiene divididas a las principales figuras de Vamos, partido de oposición que cuenta con uno de los 60 escaños de la Asamblea Legislativa. Ortiz también publicó este fin de semana un video con su versión sobre la crisis interna y las intenciones que, según ella, existen para apartarla del partido, mientras defendió la convocatoria de la asamblea extraordinaria con base en el artículo 24 de los estatutos.
