Representatives of the San Salvador Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Education (MINED) conducted inquiries following sexual harassment complaints at the Goldtree Liebes school in Los Planes de Renderos and the Salvadoran American Cultural Center (CCSA), education sources confirmed to this outlet. For now, neither the departmental office nor the Ministry has disclosed the scope of the investigations or whether it will impose any sanction.

LA PRENSA GRÁFICA learned that the San Salvador departmental office visited the Goldtree Liebes school in Los Planes de Renderos on Friday, August 28, following a report by this outlet on the accusations against Principal Miguel Ángel Linares and other teachers.

Sources at the departmental office confirmed to this outlet that they held a meeting with students from sixth grade through high school, without the principal or teachers present, to find out whether the students had experienced sexual harassment or other types of abuse. They asked them “to speak with confidence and without fear of retaliation.”

According to the same sources, the students described different types of harassment they had suffered at the hands of the principal and other teachers, including mistreatment, sexual innuendo, invitations to go out, and flirting. Some of those complaints were submitted in written notes to departmental office representatives. In addition, some female students asked to share their experiences verbally, and the authorities were able to take notes.

This outlet had access to three of the letters written by female students at Goldtree Liebes, in which they describe feeling “harassed and uncomfortable” because of “the principal’s actions.” One of them described receiving unnecessary compliments “like that I’m pretty or cute, with physical closeness like unexpected hugs.” Another mentions feeling “affected by the principal’s harassment.”

“On different occasions I have felt discomfort and insecurity. For this reason, I consider it important to request that my situation be taken into account. My intention is not to cause problems, but to express how I feel and for this situation to be reviewed seriously and respectfully,” writes one student.

An education source, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the inquiries and said, “The investigation shouldn’t stop there. Now that they’ve taken on the task of conducting these inquiries, we hope it isn’t just a show to say they’ve taken action on the matter. If there is evidence, testimony, and other kinds of information, the protocol must be followed, the teacher removed, and the case referred to the authorities.”

This outlet has submitted a written request to the San Salvador Departmental Office of Education for a statement on the sexual harassment cases at the Goldtree Liebes school, as well as other institutions for which it has complaints. It also sought a statement from Principal Linares regarding the accusations, but he refused to sign the request, and as of press time, both responses are still pending.

On September 1 of this year, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA published an article about cases of sexual harassment by the principal, about which the departmental office received a complaint. However, according to the resolution record accessed by this outlet, he was only asked to apologize verbally to the person harmed.

Classes moved online amid investigations

In another case, authorities at the Salvadoran American Cultural Center (CCSA) in San Salvador have suspended in-person classes and are holding classes virtually until September 21, on the grounds that they need to carry out investigations into harassment complaints at the institution.

On September 1 of this year, a female student reported to the institution’s administration that she had been harassed by one of the workers, in a case where the Action Protocol for Addressing Sexual Violence in Educational Communities was not followed. Education sources confirmed to this outlet that the San Salvador departmental office held a meeting with the institution’s directors on Friday, September 4, to follow up on the complaint.

As of press time, the scope of the meeting between the departmental office and the private school’s authorities has also not been disclosed.

The school authorities also held a meeting with parents, and this outlet had access to a statement from a mother who said at the meeting that “cases have been raised and they aren’t being heard; there is psychological harassment by teachers at this institution. I have asked to speak with the Minister of Education, with the administration here… They have made my daughter cry and now they want to end the meeting. Why won’t they let the parents speak? The institution doesn’t communicate anything.”

That same day, September 4, the CCSA issued a statement on its social media saying the harassment case “is currently under investigation by the competent authorities” and that the action protocol had been activated by removing the person accused of the act. However, students spoke with this outlet and said that “the person continued in their duties,” which led a group of students, alumni, and parents to hold a protest in front of the school on Monday, September 7.

Students say that at least 11 teachers have engaged in some form of harassment toward female students and asked that disciplinary measures be taken and that people’s testimonies be heard.

At both Goldtree Liebes and the CCSA, students have created social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to publicly expose the sexual harassment cases.

MINED indaga casos de acoso sexual en centros educativos de San Salvador

Representantes de la Dirección Departamental del Ministerio de Educación (MINED) de San Salvador realizaron diligencias tras las denuncias de acoso sexual en el Centro Educativo Goldtree Liebes de Los Planes de Renderos y el Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano (CCSA), según confirmaron a este medio fuentes educativas. Por el momento ni la Departamental ni el Ministerio han dado a conocer el alcance de sus investigaciones o si impondrán alguna sanción.

LA PRENSA GRÁFICA conoció que la Departamental de San Salvador realizó una visita al Centro Educativo Goldtree Liebes de los Planes de Renderos el viernes 28 de agosto, a raíz de una publicación de este medio sobre las acusaciones contra el director Miguel Ángel Linares y otros docentes.

Fuentes de la Departamental confirmaron a este medio que realizaron una reunión con alumnos y alumnas de sexto grado hasta bachillerato, sin la presencia del director ni de docentes, para conocer si los estudiantes han tenido experiencias de acoso sexual u otro tipo de abuso. Les pidieron “que hablaran con confianza y sin temor a represalias”.

Los alumnos expusieron, según las mismas fuentes, diferentes tipos de acoso que han sufrido por parte del director y otros docentes, desde malos tratos, insinuaciones de índole sexual, invitaciones a salir y coqueteos. Algunas de esas denuncias fueron entregadas a través de notas escritas a los representantes de la Departamental. Además, algunas alumnas pidieron dar a conocer su experiencia de manera verbal y las autoridades pudieron tomar nota.

Este medio tuvo acceso a tres de las cartas escritas por alumnas del Goldtree Liebes, donde exponen sentirse “acosadas e incómodas” por “el accionar del director”. Una de ellas describió recibir cumplidos innecesarios “como que soy bonita o linda, con acercamiento físico como abrazos inesperados”. Otra menciona sentirse “afectada por los acosos del director”.

En diferentes ocasiones he tenido incomodidad e inseguridad. oor esta razón considero importante solicitar que se tome en cuenta mi situación. Mi intención no es causar problemas, sino expresar cómo me siento y que se revise esta situación de manera seria y respetuosa”, expone una alumna.

Una fuente educativa, que pidió reserva de su identidad, confirmó las diligencias y dijo que “la investigación no debe quedarse ahí. Ahora que se han dado a la tarea de realizar dichas diligencias, esperamos que no sea solo el show para decir que han tomado cartas en el asunto. Si hay pruebas, testimonios y otra clase de información, debe seguirse el protocolo, separar al docente y remitirse a las autoridades”.

Este medio ha solicitado de manera escrita a la Departamental de Educación de San Salvador una versión sobre los casos de acoso sexual en el Centro Educativo Goldtree Liebes, así como otras instituciones de las que tengan denuncias. También buscó una versión del director Linares sobre las acusaciones, pero se negó a firmar la solicitud y, al cierre de esta nota, aún se esperan ambas respuestas.

LA PRENSA GRÁFICA publicó el 1 de septiembre de este año una nota sobre casos de acoso sexual por parte de dicho director, de la cual la Departamental recibió una denuncia, pero que, según el acta de resolución a la que este medio tuvo acceso, solo le pidieron pedir disculpas de manera verbal a la persona agredida.

En modalidad virtual por investigaciones

En otro caso, autoridades del Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano (CCSA) de San Salvador han suspendido las clases presenciales y están dando clases de forma virtual hasta el 21 de septiembre, bajo la justificación de realizar las investigaciones sobre las denuncias de acoso en la institución.

El 1 de septiembre de este año una alumna denunció ante la dirección de esa institución haber sufrido acoso de parte de uno de los trabajadores, en la cual no se cumplió el Protocolo de Actuación para el Abordaje de la Violencia Sexual en Comunidades Educativas. Fuentes educativas confirmaron a este medio que la Departamental de San Salvador sostuvo una reunión con los directores de la institución el viernes 4 de septiembre, para darle seguimiento a la denuncia.

Al cierre de esta nota tampoco se ha conocido el alcance de la reunión entre la Departamental y autoridades de dicho colegio privado.

Las autoridades del centro educativo sostuvieron también una reunión con padres de familia y este medio tuvo acceso a la declaración de una madre, quien señaló en ese espacio que “se han expuesto casos y no se escuchan; hay acoso psicológico de parte de profesores de esta institución, he pedido hablar con la ministra de Educación, con la dirección de acá… han hecho llorar a mi hija y ahora quieren terminar la reunión, ¿por qué no dejan que los padres hablen? La institución no comunica nada”.

Ese mismo día, el 4 de septiembre, el CCSA emitió un comunicado en sus redes sociales donde expusieron que el caso de acoso “actualmente está bajo investigación de las autoridades competentes” y expuso que se habilitó el protocolo de actuación separando a la persona acusada de realizar la acción. Sin embargo, estudiantes hablaron con este medio y expusieron que “la persona siguió en sus labores” por lo que el lunes 7 de septiembre un grupo de alumnos, ex estudiantes y padres de familia realizaron una manifestación frente al colegio.

Estudiantes aseguran que al menos 11 docentes han realizado algún tipo de acoso hacia las alumnas y pidieron que se tomen las medidas disciplinarias, a la vez que escuchen los testimonios de las personas.

Tanto en el Goldtree Liebes como en el CCSA los alumnos han creado cuentas en redes sociales, como Facebook, Instagram y Tik Tok, para exponer públicamente los casos de acoso sexual.
