El Salvador received $5,924.8 million in family remittances between January and July 2026, a 3.7% increase compared to the $5,714.3 million recorded during the same period in 2025, according to the statistical report from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) released Thursday.

The remittance flow increased by $210.6 million compared to the first seven months of last year.

The United States remained the main source of remittances, with $5,465.5 million, equivalent to 92.2% of the total received by the country. From that market, an additional $180.6 million came in compared to 2025, an increase of 3.4%. Canada ranked second with $49.2 million, followed by Spain with $42.9 million and Italy with $37 million.

Remittances, which reach nearly 25% of Salvadoran households, totaled $864.3 million in July alone. However, the pace of growth continues to slow.

By region, the central region received the largest amount of remittances, with $2,096.4 million, equivalent to 35.4% of the total. The eastern region received $1,786.2 million and accounted for 30.1%, while the western region totaled $1,016.1 million and the paracentral region received $716.7 million. Among the four regions, the eastern region posted the highest growth, at 4.4%.

San Salvador was the department that received the highest amount, with $1,080.5 million, followed by San Miguel with $659.4 million and La Libertad with $502.8 million. At the district level, San Salvador was the top recipient with $542.5 million and 6.3% growth, while San Miguel received $344.2 million and Santa Ana totaled $192.5 million.

The BCR recorded 16.9 million transactions through July, virtually the same level reported in the same period of 2025. However, the exact cumulative number of transactions went from 15,571,094 to 15,663,157, equivalent to 0.6% growth; this count does not include cash remittances or mobile phone top-ups.

The report also shows an increase in the use of accounts to receive these funds. Remittances credited to accounts reached $2,149.5 million, a 15.2% increase compared to 2025, and accounted for 36.3% of the total. In contrast, remittances not credited to accounts fell 2.5%, to $3,495.6 million, though they remained the main mechanism, with a 59% share.

Banking institutions settled $2,428.4 million, a 7.1% increase, while other remittance companies processed $3,216.7 million, 1% more than a year earlier. Digital cryptocurrency wallets received $41.1 million, compared to $30.3 million in 2025, representing a 35.8% increase, though their share was just 0.7% of the total.

The average remittance stood at $337 between January and July, compared to $324.2 in the same period of 2025. The BCR also reported that monetary remittances totaled $5,686.2 million, equivalent to 96% of the total; another $229.8 million corresponded to cash or pocket remittances, and $8.8 million to mobile phone top-ups.

El Salvador recibió $5,924.8 millones en remesas familiares entre enero y julio de 2026, un incremento de 3.7 % frente a los $5,714.3 millones registrados durante el mismo período de 2025, según el informe estadístico del Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) difundido el jueves.

El flujo de remesas aumentó $210.6 millones en comparación con los primeros siete meses del año pasado.

Estados Unidos se mantuvo como el principal origen de las remesas, con $5,465.5 millones, equivalentes al 92.2 % del total recibido por el país. Desde ese mercado ingresaron $180.6 millones adicionales frente a 2025, un aumento de 3.4 %. Canadá ocupó el segundo lugar con $49.2 millones, seguido de España con $42.9 millones e Italia con $37 millones.

Las remesas, que llegan a cerca del 25 % de los hogares salvadoreños, sumaron $ 864.3 millones solo en julio. Sin embargo, el ritmo de crecimiento continúa desacelerándose.

Por zonas del país, la región central recibió la mayor cantidad de remesas, con $2,096.4 millones, equivalente al 35.4 % del total. La zona oriental recibió $1,786.2 millones y concentró el 30.1 %, mientras la occidental sumó $1,016.1 millones y la paracentral recibió $716.7 millones. En contraste, las remesas sin abono a cuenta disminuyeron 2.5 %, hasta $3,495.6 millones, aunque continuaron siendo el principal mecanismo, con una participación de 59 %.

Las instituciones bancarias liquidaron $2,428.4 millones, un aumento de 7.1 %, mientras otras empresas remesadoras procesaron $3,216.7 millones, 1 % más que un año antes. Las billeteras digitales de criptomonedas recibieron $41.1 millones, frente a $30.3 millones en 2025, lo que representó un incremento de 35.8 %, aunque su participación fue de apenas 0.7 % del total.
