Lawmaker Marcela Villatoro, of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena), insisted during Wednesday’s plenary session that the Court of Accounts of the Republic (CCR) has not explained why the results of the audits or special examinations carried out by the institution have not been published for two years.
“There was a situation in which it was asked why the Court of Accounts’ audits had not been published for the last two years, and there was no real answer,” she said.
The Court of Accounts has published its oversight audits from 2009 through 2023 under the “Result of the Oversight Process” section of its Transparency Portal; however, it has not yet published audits for 2024, 2025, or so far in 2026.
The president of the Court of Accounts, Walter Sosa, who was reelected to the post, said during his interview as a reelection candidate that they were harmonizing audit reports with the Personal Data Protection Law, the Access to Public Information Law, and the Court of Accounts Law. “What prevents us is not publishing sensitive information,” he said.
According to Villatoro, something that caught her attention during the round of interviews with magistrate candidates was the affinity that “all” the Court of Accounts candidates showed toward the current government.
“All the candidates, without exception, expressed a kind of… I wouldn’t know what to call it, whether to call it praise or a form of exalting, or I don’t know how to put it, talking only about how if they were elected it would be thanks to this government, and they all had nothing but praise for government institutions,” she criticized.
The lawmaker interprets the affinity shown by the Court of Accounts candidates as the possibility that the officials’ decisions “are not going to be decisions made solely for the benefit of Salvadorans.”
“The Court of Accounts is the institution that must keep the government in check, where every cent of Salvadorans goes, and that is why they must not have any kind of ties, any kind of love for a political party or a government, and that left us with a very bad taste in our mouths as a political party,” she said.

La diputada Marcela Villatoro, de Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena), insistió en la sesión plenaria del miércoles, en que la Corte de Cuentas de la República (CCR) no ha explicado por qué los resultados de las auditorías o exámenes especiales realizados por la institución no han sido publicado desde hace dos años.
«Hubo una situación en la cual se preguntó que por qué en los últimos dos años no estaban publicadas las auditorías de la Corte de Cuentas y no hubo respuesta real», afirmó.
La Corte de Cuentas ha publicado las auditorías en su área de fiscalización desde el año 2009 hasta el año 2023, en el área de «Resultado del proceso de fiscalización» de su Portal de Transparencia, sin embargo, no ha publicado aún las auditorías de los años 2024, 2025 y lo que va del 2026.
El presidente de la Corte de Cuentas, Walter Sosa, reelecto en el cargo, aseguró durante su entrevista como candidato a la reelección que estaban armonizando los informes de auditoría con la Ley de protección de datos personales, la Ley de acceso a la información pública y la Ley de la Corte de Cuentas. «Lo que nos impide es no publicar información sensible”, dijo.
Según Villatoro, algo que le llamó la atención de la jornada de entrevistas a los candidatos a magistrados fue la afinidad que mostraron «todos» los candidatos de la Corte de Cuentas al gobierno actual.
«Todos los candidatos, sin excepción alguna, manifestaron un tipo de… Yo no sabría cómo llamarlo si elogio o llamarlo una forma de enzalsar o no sé de qué forma decirlo, hablar únicamente de si eran electos gracias a este Gobierno y hablaban todos maravillas de las instituciones de gobierno», criticó.
La legisladora interpreta la afinidad que mostraron los candidatos a la Corte de Cuentas como la posibilidad de que las decisiones de los funcionarios «no van a ser decisiones que sean únicamente para beneficio de los salvadoreños».
«La Corte de Cuentas es la institución que debe contarle las costillas al Gobierno, dónde va cada centavo de los salvadoreños y por eso no tienen que tener ningún tipo de vinculación, ningún tipo de amor por un partido político o por un gobierno, y eso nos dejó un gran mal sabor de boca a nosotros como partido político», afirmó.
