The Valle Verde neighborhood, located in Apopa, San Salvador Este, continues to face water shortages and irregular service. A problem that, as families have recounted, makes basic tasks like bathing, cleaning the house, or cooking difficult.
Gabriela Martínez grew up in Valle Verde and says the water problem has always been there. Although she moved away because of the water issues, her father still lives in the neighborhood. She explains that the lack of water especially affects young children, since some families have to resort to rainwater to bathe them.
The situation also represents an additional expense for families who have to buy water. Mario Cornejo, a shaved-ice vendor, says he can get water by buying it in a nearby area, but he has to pay around $30 a month, in addition to bills for water that never arrives.
María Herminia Andrade Guevara is another affected resident. She has a business in the area and receives limited water service, which forces her to buy jugs of water.
Among the accounts, there are families who have had to leave the area or buy water because of the lack of consistent service. It means an additional financial expense, since they continue paying the bills. Others have to keep a business running while looking for ways to get water each day.
For the families of Valle Verde, not having water means reorganizing expenses, storing what little water is available, and putting the health of the most vulnerable at risk — such as children or older adults.

La colonia Valle Verde, ubicada en Apopa, San Salvador Este, continúa con la escasez y la irregularidad de agua. Un problema que como han relatado las familias, dificulta tareas básicas como bañarse, limpiar la casa o cocinar.
Gabriela Martínez creció en Valle Verde y asegura que el problema de falta de agua ha estado siempre. Aunque se mudó por los problemas de agua, su padre continúa viviendo en la colonia. Explica que la falta de agua afecta especialmente a los más pequeños, ya que algunas familias deben recurrir al agua de la lluvia para bañar a los niños.
La situación también representa un gasto adicional para las familias que tienen que comprar agua. Mario Cornejo, vendedor de minutas, cuenta que él tiene la posibilidad de abastecerse mediante agua que le venden en un sector cercano, pero debe pagar alrededor de 30 dólares mensuales, además de las facturas por un agua que nunca llega.
María Herminia Andrade Guevara, es otra vecina afectada. Tiene un negocio en la zona y recibe el servicio de manera limitada, eso la obliga a comprar garrafas de agua.
Entre los testimonios, hay familias que han tenido que abandonar el lugar o comprar agua ante la falta de un servicio constante. Significa un gasto económico adicional, pues continúan pagando las facturas. Otros tienen que mantener un negocio mientras buscan cómo abastecerse de agua para cada día.
Para las familias de Valle Verde, no tener agua significa reorganizar gastos, almacenar el poco recurso disponible, además de poner en riesgo la salud de los más vulnerables, como los niños o los adultos mayores.
