Remittances received by Salvadoran households in amounts between $3,000 and $5,000 grew by up to 55.5% in the first half of the year, according to statistics from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

From January to June, households received close to $5,060.6 million in remittances, an increase of $219.2 million, or 4.5%, compared to the same period in 2025.

In the breakdown, the BCR reports that the largest increases were seen in amounts starting at $3,000, which are considered investment remittances — money sent so that families can buy property, repair a home, or start a business, though it can also go toward savings.

Of the total, remittances between $3,000 and $3,999.99 totaled $140.7 million in the first half of 2026, spread across roughly 45,000 transactions.

According to the BCR, they account for just 2.8% of the total received by Salvadoran households, but grew by $32.9 million compared to the same period in 2025, equivalent to 30.5%.

Remittances between $4,000 and $4,999.99 have an even smaller share, at just 1.2%. These totaled $58.5 million in the first half of the year but posted the largest increase, with an additional $20.9 million, equivalent to 55.5%.

The $8,000 to $8,999.99 remittance bracket grew 27.9%, after totaling $3.6 million — just 0.1% of the total.

Larger amounts

Likewise, remittances between $9,000 and $9,999.99 increased 22.9%. The Central Bank reports that these transfers totaled $7.2 million in the first half of the year, also accounting for 0.1% of the total.

Although these segments have a smaller share of total remittances, their double-digit growth contrasts with the rest of the ranges. This is reflected in the bracket of up to $499.99, which totaled $1,711.7 million — 33.8% of the overall amount — but posted a 0.4% decline compared to 2025.

Likewise, remittances between $500 and $2,999.99 posted increases of between 3.7% and 7.2%, while amounts above $10,000 grew 4%.

According to the BCR, remittances declared by senders as investment totaled $54.6 million as of June, just 1.1% of the total, and reflect an 11.9% decline compared to 2025.

Meanwhile, remittances earmarked for consumption reached $5,006 million, equivalent to 98.9% of the total, and grew 4.7%.
