Representatives of the Union for the Defense of Workers of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (SIDETISSS) informed LA PRENSA GRÁFICA yesterday that they will request a dialogue table with the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, and the head of the Ministry of Health (MINSAL), Francisco Alabi, to “establish the fair and adequate payment of severance or reinstatement” for 1,500 workers dismissed from the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS) from 2024 to date.

“We’re going to request a dialogue table with the President of the Republic so that he intervenes, or even with the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, because he has a say in Social Security health policies,” said Modesto Díaz Jovel, SIDETISSS organizing secretary.

He added that this second attempt to set up a dialogue table follows the refusal by ISSS authorities, the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDDH), and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (MTPS) to hold a meeting requested last year by the National Coordinating Body for the Defense of the Health of the Salvadoran People (CONADESA).

This time, the new request will be made by the former ISSS employees, who will point to the severance payments to former workers of the Rosales National Hospital (HNR), announced by the MTPS, as an example.

“We’re going to meet with our fellow workers (dismissed from the ISSS) to lay out what has happened with the former Rosales Hospital workers (severance payments) and raise awareness of what the government is doing, because how is it possible that they’re going to pay severance to some and look the other way with others,” said Díaz Jovel.

The SIDETISSS representative indicated that they will seek to establish a dialogue not only with the ISSS, the MTPS, and the PDDH, but also with other institutions to try to resolve the problem.

Erika De León, a member of SIDETISSS, said that since Labor Minister Rolando Castro intervened in the severance payments for those dismissed from the HNR, they hope the same happens with those from Social Security.

“That dialogue table has to prioritize, first, respect for the collective bargaining agreement. That the 120 fellow workers we represent receive their severance or be reinstated. If (Castro) already set things right with those from Rosales (severance payments), let him set things right with those from Social Security,” said De León, who worked at the ISSS for nearly 20 years.

Despedidos del ISSS solicitarán reunión con el presidente salvadoreño

Representantes del Sindicato para la Defensa de los Trabajadores del Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (SIDETISSS) informaron ayer a LA PRENSA GRÁFICA que solicitarán una mesa de diálogo al presidente de la República, Nayib Bukele, y al titular del Ministro de Salud (MINSAL), Francisco Alabi para “establecer el pago justo y adecuado de las indemnizaciones o reinstalo” de 1,500 trabajadores despedidas del Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS) desde 2024 a la fecha.

“Nosotros le vamos a solicitar una mesa de diálogo al presidente de la República a que intervenga o incluso al ministro de Salud, Francisco Alabi, porque él tiene que ver en las políticas de salud del Seguro Social”, detalló Modesto Díaz Jovel, secretario de organización del SIDETISSS.

Agregó que esta segunda intento de instalar una mesa de diálogo a la negativa de las autoridades del ISSS, de la Procuraduría para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos (PDDH) y el Ministerio de Trabajo y Previsión Social (MTPS) a una reunión solicitada el año pasado por parte de la Coordinadora Nacional para la Defensa de la Salud del Pueblo Salvadoreño (CONADESA).

En esta ocasión, esta nueva solicitud será realizada por los exempleados del ISSS, quienes pondrán de ejemplo la entrega de las indemnizaciones a los extrabajadores del Hospital Nacional Rosales (HNR), anunciada por el MTPS.

“Nos vamos a reunir con los compañeros (despedidos del ISSS) para exponer lo que ha sucedido con los extrabajadores del Hospital Rosales (pagos de indemnización) y tomar conciencia de lo que está haciendo el Gobierno, porque cómo es posible que a unos los van a indemnizar y con otros van a estar viendo para otro lado”, señaló Díaz Jovel.

El representante del SIDETISSS indicó que no solo buscarán establecer un diálogo con el ISSS, el MTPS y la PDDH, sino también con otras instituciones para tratar de solventar el problema.

Erika De León, parte de SIDETISSS, dijo que ya que el ministro de Trabajo, Rolando Castro, intervino con el pago de indemnización de los despedidos del HNRs, esperan que pase lo mismo con los del Seguro Social.

“Esa mesa de diálogo tiene que priorizar, primero, el respeto por la contratación colectiva. Que se les indemnice a los 120 compañeros que representamos o que se les reinstale. Si (Castro) ya rectificó con los del Rosales (pago de indemnizaciones), que rectifique con los del Seguro Social”, indicó De León, quien laboró casi 20 años en el ISSS.
