On Thursday, June 25, three police officers arrived at the home of lawyer Guillermo García — the defense attorney for José Santos “Pepe” Melara and Luis Menjívar, both facing charges in the case involving veterans of the Alianza Nacional El Salvador en Paz — and took photographs of his house and vehicle, which he considers an act of intimidation.
García told LA PRENSA GRÁFICA that the three officers went only to his house, where he was at the time, and asked for someone who supposedly lived there. When they didn’t find the person, they left, but not before taking photographs of the home and the lawyer’s vehicle — a situation he describes as “harassment.”
“An officer knocked on the door with a lie, asking for a supposed neighbor by name, but mine was the only house they knocked on. Then they went about taking photographs of the house and the vehicle. I know they want to intimidate me, to silence me,” García said.
García has reported this type of “surveillance” by the police through other media outlets and noted that it is part of a pattern of “harassment,” though he hopes it doesn’t escalate. He said he will continue to defend Melara and Menjívar ahead of the preliminary hearing, which is expected to take place soon.
The lawyer has stated that the Attorney General’s Office has no evidence in the case against 11 people accused of planning alleged terrorist attacks for the June 1, 2024, presidential inauguration.
This newspaper sought comment from the police through its communications team, but as of press time was still awaiting a response.
Abogado de veteranos denuncia acoso policial en su vivienda

Este jueves 25 de junio tres agentes de la Policía Nacional Civil (PNC) llegaron a la vivienda del abogado Guillermo García, quien es el defensor de José Santos “Pepe” Melara y Luis Menjívar (ambos procesados en el caso de los excombatientes y veteranos de la Alianza Nacional El Salvador en Paz) y tomaron fotografías de su casa y vehículo, lo cual considera como un acto de amedrentamiento.
Según comentó García a LA PRENSA GRÁFICA, los tres agentes llegaron únicamente a su casa, donde él se encontraba, y preguntaron por una persona que supuestamente residía en el lugar. Al no dar con esa persona se marcharon, pero antes tomaron fotografías de la vivienda y del vehículo del abogado, una situación que califica como “acoso”.
Un agente tocó la puerta de la casa con la mentira, preguntando por un nombre de en supuesto vecino, pero fue la mía fue la única vivienda donde tocaron. Después se dedicaron a tomar fotografías de la casa y el vehículo. Sé que quieren amedrentar, callarme”, indicó García.
García ha denunciado a través de otros medios este tipo de “seguimiento” de parte de la PNC y señaló que es parte de un “acoso” pero que espera no pase a más. Dijo que se mantendrá en la defensa de Melara y Menjívar de cara a la audiencia preliminar, que estaría próxima a realizarse.
El abogado ha denunciado que la Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) no tiene pruebas en el proceso contra 11 personas acusadas de planificar supuestos atentados terroristas para la toma de posesión presidencial del 1 de junio de 2024.
