Two women were murdered in the country in May of this year, but their femicides were not reported by the police in their daily statistics on violent deaths. The two cases have been confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and Judicial Centers following the respective initial hearings against the alleged perpetrators, who are being prosecuted for the crime of aggravated femicide.
The first case occurred on May 2 in the Zacatecoluca district, La Paz Este, where, according to investigations, the victim was allegedly strangled with a cable by her partner, Carlos Alberto Martínez. The Attorney General’s Office reported on June 2, following the initial hearing against the defendant held at the Second Peace Court of Zacatecoluca, that he will remain in pretrial detention while the criminal proceedings continue.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that Martínez argued with the victim in the early morning hours and allegedly murdered her inside their home, where the couple’s three children were also present. They added that Martínez initially claimed his wife had committed suicide, and that it has been established that the woman suffered psychological and emotional abuse from her partner.
“The defendant reported the victim’s death, stating that she had committed suicide and that he had found her with the cable around her neck upon entering the home’s hallway; however, when his account was compared with the autopsy, it did not match the cause of death, so he was arrested,” the prosecution report stated.

Meanwhile, on June 4, Judicial Centers reported that the Santa Ana Criminal Court ordered a formal investigation with pretrial detention for a man identified only by his initials M. A. P. L., 46, for the crime of aggravated femicide of his partner Ivi Eunice Alvarado Asencio, 28.
LA PRENSA GRÁFICA reported on May 25 on the discovery of Ivi Eunice’s body inside a home located in the Amayito community, sector seven of the Santa Ana district, in Santa Ana Centro, and the arrest of her partner.
The Attorney General’s Office report, following the initial hearing, indicates that the crime occurred on May 23 when the victim had consumed alcoholic beverages, and the defendant allegedly took advantage of her vulnerable state to commit sexual violence and then cause her death by asphyxiation.
“The defendant informed the police about the death of his partner and stated that it had been due to natural causes. However, following the initial inquiries carried out by the authorities, he was arrested as the main suspect in the events,” the judicial report says.

Regarding these cases, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA consulted the police through its communications department about the reasons why both femicides were not included in their reports, nor the arrests of the alleged perpetrators, but as of the publication of this article they had not responded.

Dos mujeres fueron asesinadas en mayo de este año en el país, pero sus feminicidios no fueron reportados por la Policía Nacional Civil (PNC) en sus estadísticas diarias de muertes violentas. Los dos casos han sido confirmados por la Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) y Centros Judiciales tras las respectivas audiencias iniciales contra los presuntos hechores, procesados por el delito de feminicidio agravado.
El primero de los casos ocurrió el pasado 2 de mayo en el distrito de Zacatecoluca, La Paz Este, donde, según las investigaciones, la víctima habría sido asfixiada con un cable por su compañero de vida, Carlos Alberto Martínez. La Fiscalía reportó el pasado 2 de junio, tras la audiencia inicial contra el imputado, realizada en el Juzgado Segundo de Paz de Zacatecoluca, que este continuará en prisión provisional mientras sigue el proceso penal.
La Fiscalía afirmó que Martínez discutió con la víctima en horas de la madrugada y que supuestamente la asesinó en el interior de su vivienda, donde también se encontraban los tres hijos de la pareja. Agregaron que inicialmente Martínez dijo que su esposa se había suicidado, y que se ha establecido que la mujer sufría de violencia psicológica y emocional por parte de su pareja.
“El imputado reportó la muerte de la víctima, indicó que ella se había suicidado y él la había encontrado con el cable en el cuello al ingresar al corredor de la vivienda; sin embargo, al contrastar su versión con la autopsia, esta no coincidía con la causa de la muerte, por lo que fue detenido”, indicó el reporte fiscal.

Mientras que el pasado 4 de junio, Centros Judiciales reportó que el Juzgado de lo Criminal de Santa Ana ordenó instrucción formal con detención provisional para un hombre únicamente identificado por sus iniciales M. A. P. L., de 46 años, por el delito de feminicidio agravado de su compañera de vida Ivi Eunice Alvarado Asencio, de 28 años.
LA PRENSA GRÁFICA reportó el 25 de mayo sobre el hallazgo del cadáver de Ivi Eunice al interior de una vivienda ubicada en la comunidad Amayito, sector siete del distrito de Santa Ana, en Santa Ana Centro, y la captura de su pareja.
El informe de la Fiscalía, tras la audiencia inicial, señala que el crimen ocurrió el 23 de mayo cuando la víctima había consumido bebidas embriagantes y el imputado habría aprovechado su estado de vulnerabilidad para ejercer violencia sexual y luego causarle la muerte mediante asfixia.
“El imputado informó a la Policía Nacional Civil sobre el fallecimiento de su compañera de vida y manifestó que este se habría producido por causas naturales. Sin embargo, tras las primeras diligencias realizadas por las autoridades, fue capturado como principal sospechoso de los hechos”, dice el informe judicial.

Sobre estos casos, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA consultó a la Policía Nacional Civil, a través de su área de comunicaciones, sobre las razones por las que ambos feminicidios no fueron incluidos en sus reportes, ni las capturas de los presuntos responsables, pero hasta la publicación de esta nota no habían respondido.
