Bases Magisteriales de El Salvador requested that payments for teachers who opted for the voluntary retirement and resignation decree be made in a single installment no later than July. The request comes after teachers in some departments began receiving payments on Wednesday, May 27, though they report receiving deposits equivalent to only two and a half months out of the established fifteen base salaries.
The union stated that the teachers met all the requirements to receive the financial compensation for retirement, and therefore expect the disbursement to be made in a single payment.
According to the organization, the Ministry of Education informed them that the amount corresponding to the fifteen base salaries per teacher will be spread across six monthly payments, starting in May.
David Rodríguez, secretary general of Bases Magisteriales, noted that in 2020 the Ministry of Education granted full compensation to teachers covered by the reform, while in 2023 other teachers received the payment in two installments.
The financial compensation for teachers stems from the amendment to Article 36-D of the Teaching Career Law, which established that teachers who accepted its terms would receive fifteen base salaries, based on the salary they were earning at the time they exercised this right, Rodríguez said.
Teachers are asking President Nayib Bukele to instruct Finance Minister Jerson Posada to transfer the necessary funds to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology so the remaining twelve and a half months can be paid.
Bases Magisteriales pide un solo pago para docentes acogidos a retiro voluntario
Bases Magisteriales de El Salvador solicitó que los pagos correspondientes a los maestros que se acogieron al decreto de retiro y renuncia voluntaria se realicen en una sola cuota a más tardar en el mes de julio. La petición surge luego de que el miércoles 27 de mayo docentes de algunos departamentos comenzaron a recibir el pago, aunque señalan que únicamente les han sido depositados montos equivalentes a dos meses y medio del total de los quince salarios base establecidos.
El gremio indicó que los maestros cumplieron con todos los requisitos para recibir la compensación económica por retiro, por lo que esperan que el desembolso se efectúe en un solo pago.
De acuerdo con la organización, el Ministerio de Educación les informó que el monto correspondiente a los quince salarios base por docente será distribuido en seis pagos mensuales, iniciando en mayo.
Por su parte, David Rodríguez, secretario general de Bases Magisteriales, recordó que en 2020 el Ministerio de Educación otorgó una compensación completa a los maestros acogidos a la reforma, mientras que en 2023 otros docentes recibieron el pago en dos cuotas.
La compensación económica para los maestros deriva de la reforma al artículo 36-D de la Ley de la Carrera Docente, mediante la cual se estableció que los docentes que se acogieran a la misma recibirían quince salarios base, tomando como referencia el salario devengado al momento de ejercer el derecho, señaló Rodríguez.
Los maestros solicitan al mandatario Nayib Bukele que instruya al ministro de Hacienda, Jerson Posada, a transferir los fondos necesarios al Ministerio de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, con el fin de que se les puedan pagar los doce meses y medio restantes.
