Paving work being carried out by the Usulután Este City Hall on 6th Avenue North, between 4th and 6th Streets West in the city of Usulután, was halted this week after beginning on May 21.
According to residents in the area, work was done only on the day the project was inaugurated and the following day, after which the machinery was removed from the site, reportedly due to problems with the drinking water pipes.
The street remains closed, which residents and local merchants say is also affecting them. In addition, Wednesday night’s storm caused water to pool on the stretch under construction.
“If they’re going to start a street, they should finish it, not leave it half done,” one resident said.
This outlet requested to speak with Mayor Santiago Martínez about the project, but he was not available.
Alcaldía suspende trabajos en calle de Usulután

Los trabajos de pavimentación que ejecuta la alcaldía de Usulután Este en la 6ª avenida norte, entre la 4ª y 6ª calle poniente de la ciudad de Usulután, han sido paralizados esta semana tras haberse iniciado el pasado 21 de mayo.
De acuerdo con residentes de la zona, solamente se realizaron trabajos el día de la inauguración del proyecto y el siguiente, y posteriormente, la maquinaria fue retirada del sector, presuntamente por problemas en tuberías de agua potable.
La calle permanece cerrada, lo que, según residentes y comerciantes del sector, también les afecta. Además, la tormenta registrada la noche del miércoles causó acumulaciones de agua en la vía intervenida.
“Si van a comenzar una calle, deberían terminarla, no dejarla a medias”, dijo un ciudadano.
Este medio solicitó hablar con el alcalde Santiago Martínez sobre la obra, pero no estaba.
