The “Dr. Salvador Allende” Health Movement (ALAMES El Salvador) and the Health Workers’ Union (SITRASALUD) reported on Wednesday, May 20, that at least 175 employees who worked at the Rosales National Hospital (HNR) and were transferred to other hospitals have not received their salaries since January.
“A few employees at the Rosales National Hospital were not laid off, but were instead forcibly transferred by verbal order to other hospitals. They complete their shifts, carry out their workloads, and clock in and out; however, since January 2026, they have not received their salaries. There are around 175 employees in this situation,” ALAMES stated.
The movement said the employees are concerned because “no one is officially informing them” how the payment issue will be resolved.
SITRASALUD, which is aware of the situation, said the employees have not quit because they hold out “hope” that they will be paid.
“They have not been paid, but they keep working in the hope that their situation will be resolved. It is regrettable that this is happening,” the health union noted.
For its part, the Union of Physicians and Workers of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (SIMETRISSS) lamented the situation and said that, despite the health system’s need for human resources, the layoffs continue.
“It is regrettable that they want to sell the public a narrative of good management when the reality is different, where there is no proper administration and everything is being put off. Patients continue to struggle to get treatment for various illnesses, and worst of all, despite needing staff and human resources, they keep laying people off under policies that in no way address the population’s real health needs,” the organization said.
NO RESPONSE
On December 23, 2025, around 1,800 HNR workers — including doctors, nurses, pharmacy staff, and clinical laboratory personnel — were dismissed from their positions.
ALAMES said these workers still have not received their severance pay, nor have those who were laid off from Zacamil Hospital, the Benjamín Bloom National Children’s Hospital (HNNBB), and the Social Security Institute.
“We are demanding that they be paid on time, that they receive proper severance, and that those who wish to be reinstated be restored to their positions,” ALAMES stated.
LA PRENSA GRÁFICA sent an email this Wednesday to Health Minister Francisco Alabi to ask whether he is aware of the reason the laid-off workers have not received their severance, as well as why transferred employees have not been paid their salaries. A response is currently pending.
Trabajadores del Hospital Rosales trasladados no reciben salario desde enero

El Movimiento por la Salud “Dr. Salvador Allende” ALAMES El Salvador y el Sindicato de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de la Salud (SITRASALUD) informaron este miércoles 20 de mayo que al menos 175 empleados que trabajaban en el Hospital Nacional Rosales (HNR), y fueron trasladados a otros hospitales, no han recibido sus salarios desde enero.
“A unos pocos empleados del Hospital Nacional Rosales no los despidieron, sino que los trasladaron obligatoriamente y de manera verbal a otros hospitales. Cumplen con turnos, carga laboral y marcan entrada y salida, sin embargo desde enero de 2026 no reciben sus salarios. Son alrededor de 175 empleados en dicha situación”, indicó ALAMES.
El Movimiento asegura que los empleados están preocupados porque “nadie les informa de manera oficial” cómo se resolverá lo de los pagos.
Para SITRASALUD, que está al tanto de esta situación, aseguró que los empleados no renuncian porque tienen la “esperanza” que les pagarán.
“No les han pagado, pero ellos siguen trabajando con la esperanza de que les van a resolver su situación, pero sí es lamentable que se esté dando esta situación”, señaló la gremial de salud.
Por su parte, el Sindicato de Médicos Trabajadores del Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (SIMETRISSS) lamentó la situación y dijo que, a pesar que se necesitan recursos humanos en el sistema de salud, los despidos continúan.
“Es lamentable que ante la población se quiera vender un discurso de buena administración y la realidad es diferente, donde no hay adecuada gestión y todo está quedando para después. Los pacientes continúan teniendo problemas para poder tratar sus enfermedades de diferente índole y, lo peor aún, es que necesitando mano y recurso humano, siguen despidiendo por políticas que no satisfacen en ningún momento las necesidades reales de salud que tiene la población”, dijo la organización.
SIN RESPUESTA
El 23 de diciembre de 2025, alrededor de 1,800 trabajadores del HNR, entre médicos, enfermeras, enfermeros, personal de farmacia y de laboratorio clínico, fueron despedidos de sus puestos.
ALAMES aseguró que estas personas aún no han recibido su indemnización, al igual que los trabajadores que fueron despedidos del Hospital Zacamil, el Hospital Nacional de Niños Benjamín Bloom (HNNBB)y el Seguro Social.
“Estamos haciendo las exigencias para que se les pague con tiempo, se les indemnice adecuadamente y para los que quieran ser restituidos, se les restituya en sus cargos”, mencionó ALAMES.
LA PRENSA GRÁFICA envió este miércoles un correo electrónico al ministro de Salud, Francisco Alabi, para consultarle si conoce la razón por la cual no se les ha pagado la indemnización a los trabajadores, así como el salario a los que fueron trasladados hacia otros hospitales. Al momento se está a la espera de una respuesta.
