Residents of the Santa Lucía neighborhood in the Los Encuentros canton of the city of Ereguayquín, Usulután Este, continue to wait for the Ministry of Education (MINED) to build the community’s school, which has operated out of a corrugated metal and wood structure for over 25 years.
The school, which also lacks electricity, is located in a green space owned by the Ereguayquín district office. It consists of just two classrooms, where students from preschool to 4th grade attend classes.
Parents say the children are affected by the high temperatures.
“They should consider that these are little children attending classes here, and that’s why improving their school should be a priority. Just as they build large schools in other places, they could do it here. Some of us parents decided not to send our children these days because they say they have to endure the heat since there isn’t any shade at all over the school,” said a mother, who asked to remain anonymous.
Due to this situation, some parents opt to take their children to schools in Concepción Batres, even though this means higher expenses for them.
“People prefer to take their kids to Concepción Batres, paying $2 a day in bus fare to drop them off and pick them up, but knowing they’re attending classes in good conditions,” the mother said.
She added, “We would like to have a place for our kids like those schools they inaugurate in their two-schools-a-day program, but we haven’t had that luck. We hope that someday it will happen for us,” the mother added.
Two years ago, the school’s principal stated she had requested improvements for the school from MINED, but this time she refused to provide information about the response she received.
Additionally, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA attempted to find out if MINED has considered improving conditions at this school, but received no response to the request made through one of the officials in the institution’s communications unit.
Comunidad educativa de Ereguayquín sigue esperando la construcción de escuela

Los habitantes de la colonia Santa Lucía, en el cantón Los Encuentros de la ciudad de Ereguayquín, en Usulután Este, continúan esperando que el Ministerio de Educación (MINED) ejecute la construcción de la escuela de dicha comunidad, la cual desde hace más de 25 años funciona en un local de lámina y madera.
La escuela, que tampoco cuenta con energía eléctrica, está ubicada en una zona verde que es propiedad de la oficina distrital de Ereguayquín. Consta de sólo dos aulas, donde reciben clases alumnos desde parvularia hasta 4º grado.
Los padres aseguran que los niños son afectados por las altas temperaturas.
“Deben considerar que son niños pequeños los que reciben clases aquí y por eso mejorarles su escuela debería ser prioridad. Así como construyen grandes escuelas en otros lados podrían hacerlo aquí. Algunos padres decidimos no mandar a los niños en estos días porque dicen que soportan el calor porque no hay ni una sombra sobre la escuela”, expresó una madre de familia, quien solicitó no mencionar su identidad.
Debido a esta situación, algunos padres de familia optan por llevar a sus hijos a escuelas de Concepción Batres; aunque esto les genere mayores gastos.
“La gente prefiere llevar a los niños a Concepción Batres, pagando $2 diarios de pasaje por ir a dejarlos e ir a traerlos, pero sabiendo que reciben clases en buenas condiciones”, dijo la madre de familia.
Agregó, “nos gustaría tener un lugar para nuestros niños como esos centros escolares que inauguran en las dos escuelas por día, pero no hemos tenido esa suerte. Esperamos que algún día se nos cumpla”, agregó la madre de familia.
Hace dos años, la directora del centro escolar aseguró que había solicitado al MINED mejoras para la escuela, pero en esta ocasión se negó a dar información sobre la repuesta recibida.
Además, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA intentó conocer si el MINED ha considerado mejorar las condiciones de este centro escolar, pero no respondieron a la petición realizada a través de uno de los encargados de la unidad de comunicaciones de esa institución.
