An Italian Salesian priest is accused of sexual abuse committed against minors between 1979 and 1985 at the Instituto Técnico Ricaldone in San Salvador, according to a report by the Spanish newspaper El País, as part of an international investigation into clergy abuse in the Americas.

The document contains three testimonies pointing to abuse committed at the Instituto Técnico Ricaldone in San Salvador, where they accuse the Salesian priest Giuseppe Corò.

The Salesian congregation acknowledged that it removed Corò in 2007 following suspicions and sent him to Rome, assuring that he had no further contact with minors. In 2019, two complaints led to a canonical conviction.

The report cites three testimonies recounting abuse between 1979 and 1985 at the Instituto Técnico Ricaldone in the country’s capital, San Salvador. They accuse the Salesian Giuseppe Corò, and the congregation, when consulted about the case, admits that it removed him in 2007 amid suspicions of abuse and sent him to Rome, where, the order asserts, he had no further contact with minors. Later, in 2019, two complaints ended in a canonical conviction. Those who filed them are two of the people who spoke with the Spanish news outlet, José Napoleón LG and Patrick CS.

The victims were between 14 and 17 years old, and their accounts describe a modus operandi: approaching students with academic difficulties and offering them the solution to their problems in exchange for sexual advances.

One of the accusers, José Napoleón, stated: “I was a victim of abuse by Giuseppe Corò when he was the principal and I was studying at the school.”

The testimony describes a pattern in which the clergyman approached students with academic difficulties. “I arrived, knocked on the door, and it opened instantly. He was waiting in the doorway. He grabbed my hand, dragged me into the office, and right there he started kissing me and touching me up and down,” he recounted.

Another accuser, Reynaldo CF, recounted a similar episode: “Suddenly I feel his breathing as if he were getting aroused and he brought his lips close to mine, but I shoved him hard, he threw me out of the office, and the next day I was expelled.”

Patrick also stated he had been a victim on several occasions. “On several occasions he tried to kiss me, and on more than one occasion we ended up on the ground, on the floor,” he indicated.

According to the information provided by the Salesians, Corò passed through Guatemala in 1964 before being ordained. He was then in El Salvador until 1990, the year he returned to Rome. He later lived in Costa Rica between 1994 and 1997. After another return to the Italian capital, he stayed in Saltillo, Mexico, between 2002 and 2007, until the first suspicions of abuse arose there and he returned permanently to Italy.

The report is part of a broader dossier containing 21 testimonies accusing 24 people across eight countries in the Americas, including Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, and the United States.

According to El País, these documents have been compiled since 2021 to submit complaints to the Vatican, given the difficulty of publishing all of them and the existence of possible cover-ups at various levels.

The dossier seeks to have the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith investigate the cases, as part of its responsibility regarding allegations of abuse within the Church.

The El País investigation was delivered to the Vatican and includes a report with 21 testimonies accusing a total of 24 priests, religious figures, and laypeople from eight countries. Colombia accounts for more than half the cases — 13 in total — and the rest are located in Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador, the United States, Mexico, and Venezuela.

Un sacerdote salesiano italiano es señalado por abusos sexuales cometidos contra menores entre 1979 y 1985 en el Instituto Técnico Ricaldone, en San Salvador, según un informe del diario español El País, como parte de una investigación internacional sobre abusos en el clero en América.

Uno de los denunciantes, José Napoleón, afirmó: “Yo fui víctima del abuso de Giuseppe Corò cuando él era director y yo estudiaba en el colegio”.

El testimonio describe un patrón en el que el religioso se acercaba a estudiantes con dificultades académicas. “Llegué, toqué la puerta y se abrió al instante. Él estaba esperando en el marco. Agarró mi mano, me arrastró dentro de la oficina, y ahí mismo me comenzó a besar y tocar de arriba a abajo”, relató.

Otro denunciante, Reynaldo CF, narró un episodio similar: “De repente siento la respiración de él como si se estuviera excitando y acercó sus labios a los míos, pero yo lo aventé con fuerza, me echó del despacho y al día siguiente me expulsaron”.

Patrick también aseguró haber sido víctima en varias ocasiones. “En varias ocasiones él trató de besarme y en más de una ocasión terminamos en el suelo, en el piso”, indicó.

Según la información aportada por los salesianos, Corò pasó por Guatemala en 1964 antes de ordenarse. Luego estuvo en El Salvador hasta 1990, año en que regresó a Roma. Luego vivió en Costa Rica entre 1994 y 1997. Tras un nuevo retorno a la capital italiana, después permaneció en Saltillo, México, entre 2002 y 2007, hasta que surgieron allí las primeras sospechas de abusos y volvió definitivamente a Italia.

El informe forma parte de un dossier más amplio con 21 testimonios que acusan a 24 personas en ocho países de América, incluyendo Colombia, Argentina, México, Venezuela y Estados Unidos.

Según El País, estos documentos se elaboran desde 2021 para trasladar denuncias al Vaticano, ante la dificultad de publicarlas todas y por la existencia de posibles encubrimientos en distintos niveles.

El dossier busca que el Dicasterio para la Doctrina de la Fe investigue los casos, como parte de su responsabilidad ante denuncias de abuso dentro de la Iglesia.

La investigación de El País fue entregada al Vaticano e incluye un informe con 21 testimonios que acusan a un total de 24 sacerdotes, religiosos y laicos de ocho países. Colombia acapara más de la mitad de los casos, un total de 13, y el resto se sitúan en Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador, Estados Unidos, México y Venezuela.
