The Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones (General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications, SIGET) has selected Liberty Networks as the provider to design, build, deploy, and operate El Salvador’s first international submarine cable.
The project entails a system spanning approximately 1,800 kilometers that will enable direct connections to international nodes and expand the country’s high-speed Internet capacity.
Liberty Networks confirmed the decision in an institutional statement, noting that the new system aims to bolster the national digital infrastructure, increase available bandwidth, and enhance connectivity resilience, at a time when El Salvador currently relies on terrestrial links with neighboring countries.
From the United States, the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs highlighted the announcement and stated that the company’s selection will provide faster Internet access to Salvadorans and create new opportunities for innovation and economic growth.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele echoed the message, referring to the project as El Salvador’s new international submarine communications cable.
