Residents of Concepción de Ataco, in Ahuachapán Centro, have denounced the poor condition of several streets in the city center that were inaugurated by the DOM just a year ago.
They explained that due to the deterioration of the cobblestones in the historic center, the DOM is now repairing some of the roadways.
Locals stated that the streets already had visible damage, such as dislodged cobblestones, potholes, and subsidence.
Work on these streets began in April 2024 as part of the project to revitalize the town’s historic center.
Some sections of 2nd Avenue North, in front of the Catholic church, and surrounding areas were inaugurated last September, while work continued on other roads. These same streets are now being repaired.
Residents assert that the deterioration became apparent just a few months after the inauguration.
“Not even a year had passed, and the streets were already in poor condition. Now they are back to repair what was already done. We agree that maintenance is necessary, but we believe that if they deteriorate so quickly, it stems from substandard workmanship,” remarked a local business owner, who preferred to remain anonymous.
The project cost was $2,536,805.67, according to information from the DOM, which included the renovation of the park. Yesterday, workers on the project said they are repairing at least five streets that are the responsibility of their employer, a construction company subcontracted by the DOM.
Calles de Ataco inauguradas hace un año ya tienen daños
Habitantes de Concepción de Ataco, en Ahuachapán Centro, denunciaron el mal estado de varias calles del centro de la ciudad que apenas hace un año fueron inauguradas por la Dirección de Obras Municipales (DOM).
Explicaron que debido al deterioro que el empedrado del centro histórico tenía, la DOM se encuentra interviniendo algunas de las vías.
Los pobladores afirmaron que las calles ya tenían daños visibles como piedras levantadas, baches y hundimientos.
Estas calles comenzaron a ser intervenidas en abril de 2024, como parte del proyecto de revitalización del centro histórico de la localidad.
Algunos tramos de la 2ª avenida Norte, frente a la iglesia católica, y zonas aledañas fueron inauguradas en septiembre del año pasado, mientras los trabajos continuaron en otras vías. Esas mismas calles están siendo reparadas actualmente.
Los pobladores aseguran que el deterioro comenzó a evidenciarse pocos meses de la inauguración.
“No pasó ni un año y las calles ya estaban en mal estado. Ahora vienen otra vez a reparar lo que ya se había hecho. Estamos de acuerdo que les den mantenimiento, pero pensamos que si se dañan tan rápido es por la mala calidad del trabajo”, señaló una comerciante de la zona, quien prefirió omitir su nombre.
El costo del proyecto fue de $2,536,805,67, según información de la DOM, incluyendo la remodelación del parque. Trabajadores de la obra dijeron ayer que están reparando al menos cinco calles que corresponden a la empresa constructora que fue subcontratada por la DOM a la que ellos pertenecen.
