Monsignor Neftalí Ruíz, bishop of the Ancient Catholic Church, denounced that the attacks and accusations against him stem from the fight against mining, a project that affects water and natural resources, as well as the defense of the environment.

The cleric explained that his fight for the environment began with the Cabañas Environmental Committee, at which time they achieved small projects to teach young people in the communities how to cultivate without using chemicals or pesticides.

He asserted that since the struggle against the mining company Pacific Ring Commerce Group, he had already received a series of attacks where he was a victim of defamation, insults, and slander. However, these intensified since the first sit-in at the BINAES (National Library of El Salvador) against mining.

“I said, now with this sit-in they are going to keep saying many more things and worse about me, including, they not only say that I am false, that I belong to a political party, but also that I have several women with several children,” Ruíz denied.

He emphasized that the attacks increased after comments from Father Edwin Baños, who claimed Ruíz was not a priest, but failed to clarify that he is indeed one, albeit from the Ancient Catholic Church. “I have never said I am from the Roman Catholic Church,” he said, adding that his congregation recognizes the authority of the Pope and the dogma concerning the Virgin Mary.

The cleric considered that Father Baños should have thought and informed himself well before acting and making accusations; in any case, the one who should make such declarations would be, hierarchically, the archbishop or the Apostolic Nuncio, not a priest, he said.

“Now, I even fear for my own safety; as a human, I am afraid, but I have a strong spirit, and that is what helps me to always continue in the fight, to hold my head high,” he reiterated during the program Encuentro con Julio Villagrán.

He clarified that in all activities, he has stated he belongs to the Cabañas Environmental Committee and is a bishop of the Ancient Catholic Church; he has never passed himself off as a priest of the Roman Catholic Church, because that would be lying and attributing to himself a position he does not hold.

The bishop of the Ancient Catholic Church highlighted and described as positive the fact that the Episcopal Conference of El Salvador (CEDES) (Conferencia Episcopal de El Salvador) collected signatures against mining, although some priests did not heed the call. However, he noted it is not new for mining companies to try to curry favor with the church.

“At the time, as the Cabañas Environmental Committee, we denounced it when the Pacific Ring company created a small NGO, through which they helped the church. Priests received money from the company to build the chapel for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. They also did it with pastors from the Apostles and Prophets Church when they started the ‘Green Mining’ campaign,” he maintained.

Likewise, he recalled the words of Monsignor Romero, who said that if a church does not denounce injustice, it is a “sold-out church.” That is why now, as a bishop, he cannot remain silent and will continue to announce the kingdom of God, but also denounce injustices, wherever they may come from, including fellow priests, as some refused to collect signatures.

He stated that Pope Francis himself speaks in a video about the issue of mining, where he says that if it is necessary to oppose a law that threatens life, nature, and our common home, it must be done.

“Yo temo hasta por mi propia seguridad, como humano tengo miedo”: Monseñor Neftalí Ruíz

Monseñor Neftalí Ruíz, obispo de la iglesia católica antigua, denunció que los ataques y señalamientos en su contra se deben a la lucha contra la minería, proyecto que afecta el agua y los recursos naturales, así como la defensa del medio ambiente.

El religioso explicó que su lucha en favor del medio ambiente inició con el Comité Ambiental de Cabañas, en ese momento lograron pequeños proyectos

para enseñar en las comunidades a los jóvenes, cómo cultivar de una forma sin usar químicos ni pesticidas.

Aseguró que desde la lucha contra la empresa minera Pacific Ring Commerce Group, ya había recibido una serie de ataques donde fue víctima de difamación, insultos y calumnias, sin embargo, incrementaron desde el primer plantón en la BINAES contra la minería.

“Yo dije, ahora con este plantón van a seguir diciendo muchas cosas más y peor de mí, inclusive, dicen no solamente que soy falso, que pertenezco a un partido político, sino también que tengo varias mujeres con varios hijos”, rechazó Ruíz.

Enfatizó que los ataques incrementaron luego de los comentarios del padre Edwin Baños, quien afirmó que Ruíz no era sacerdote, pero no aclaró que si lo es de la iglesia católica antigua. “Yo nunca he dicho que soy de la iglesia Católica Romana”, dijo, tras agregar que su congregación reconoce la autoridad del Papa, y el dogma en cuanto a la Virgen María.

El religioso consideró que el padre Baños debió haber pensado e informarse bien antes de actuar y hacer señalamientos, en todo caso quien tendría que hacer las declaraciones de ese tipo sería en jerarquía el arzobispo o el Nuncio Apostólico, y no un sacerdote, dijo.

“Ahora, inclusive, yo temo hasta por mi propia seguridad, como humano tengo miedo, pero tengo un espíritu fuerte, y eso es lo que me ayuda a seguir siempre en la lucha, levantar mi frente en alto”, reiteró durante el espacio Encuentro con Julio Villagrán.

Aclaró que en todas las actividades ha dicho pertenecer al Comité Ambiental de Cabañas, ser obispo de la iglesia católica antigua, nunca se ha hecho pasar como sacerdote de la iglesia católica romana, porque estaría mintiendo y atribuyéndose un cargo que no tiene.

El obispo de la iglesia católica antigua destacó y calificó de positivo que la Conferencia Episcopal de El Salvador (CEDES) recolectarán firmas en contra de la minería, aunque algunos sacerdotes no acataron el llamado, pero no es nuevo que las empresas mineras tratan de congraciarse con la iglesia.

“En su momento, como Comité Ambiental de Cabañas lo denunciamos, cuando la empresa Pacific Ring creó una pequeña ONG, donde le ayudaban a la iglesia, sacerdotes recibieron dinero de la empresa para construir la capilla de adoración a Jesús Sacramentado, también lo hicieron con pastores de la iglesia Apóstoles y Profetas, cuando comenzaron con la campaña de Minería Verde”, sostuvo.

Asimismo, recordó las palabras de Monseñor Romero quien dijo que si una iglesia no denuncia, es una “iglesia vendida”, por eso ahora él como obispo no puede quedarse callado, y seguirá anunciando el reino de Dios, pero también denunciar las injusticias, vengan de donde venga, incluso, a los mismos sacerdotes, pues algunos no quisieron sacar firmas.

Manifestó que el mismo Papa Francisco habla en un vídeo sobre el tema de minería, donde dice que si es necesario oponerse a una ley que atenta contra la vida, la naturaleza y la casa común, debe hacerse.
