More than 500 students from the Complejo Educativo Jorge Lardé (Jorge Lardé Educational Complex), located in the cantón Las Higueras in Izalco, Sonsonate Este, began the school year for the second time in a row taking classes in two multi-purpose tents and provisional sheet-metal classrooms, due to delays in the school’s remodeling work.
The company hired by the Ministerio de Educación (MINED) (Ministry of Education) to carry out the project abandoned the work at the start of 2024, after only two months of having begun. In May of that same year, parents reported the situation to LA PRENSA GRÁFICA and asked MINED to resume the work, as students were taking classes under tents, conditions that continue to this day.
They added that, currently, the teaching staff at the school and MINED have told them it is forbidden to take photos or videos of the places where students are receiving classes, and to share them with others—without giving any reason.
“The last time, MINED said that in March they would probably begin working again. They tried having the children return to the old classrooms, but that’s not possible because they have no electricity or water, and there are a lot of mosquitoes. We want this problem to be made public because we see no solution, and children do not deserve to be in this kind of situation,” commented one mother, who requested anonymity.
“All we ask is for them to be honest with us, because we see no clarity regarding the school, and no one would like their children to study in those conditions. The children complain about the heat; they are overwhelmed because there are so many students at this school,” said another father, who also asked for his identity to be withheld.
This newspaper contacted the teachers to find out about the status of the project, but they said they were not authorized to make statements. Neither did the departmental Education office provide any information.

Más de 500 estudiantes del Complejo Educativo Jorge Lardé situado en el cantón Las Higueras, en Izalco, Sonsonate Este, iniciaron por segundo año consecutivo el periodo escolar recibiendo clases en dos carpas multiusos y aulas provisionales de lámina, por retrasos en los trabajos de remodelación de la escuela.
La empresa contratada por el Ministerio de Educación (MINED) para ejecutar el proyecto abandonó los trabajos a inicios del 2024, tras dos meses de haber comenzado. En mayo de ese mismo año, los padres y madres de familia denunciaron a LA PRENSA GRÁFICA la situación y solicitaron al MINED que reanudará la obra, ya que los estudiantes se encontraban recibiendo clases bajo las carpas, condiciones que aún persisten.
Añadieron, que actualmente, el personal docente del centro educativo y del MINED les han dicho que está prohibido que tomen fotografías o videos de los lugares donde reciben clases los estudiantes y compartirlas con otras personas, pero sin darles ninguna razón.
“La última vez dijo (el MINED) que en marzo probablemente comenzarían nuevamente a trabajar. Se intentó que los niños regresaran a las aulas viejas pero no se puede porque no tienen electricidad, ni agua y hay mucho zancudos. Buscamos que se haga público este problemo porque no vemos solución y los niños no merecen estar en este tipo de situaciones”, comentó una madre de familia bajo anonimato.
“Lo único que pedimos es que sean honestos con nosotros porque no vemos claridad con la escuela y a nadie le gustaría que sus hijos estudien en esas condiciones, los niños se quejan por el calor, están saturados porque es una gran cantidad de alumnos que tiene la escuela”, manifestó otro padre de familia, que también pidió omitir su identidad.
Este medio consultó a los docentes sobre el estado de la obra, pero dijeron que no estaban autorizados para dar declaraciones. Tampoco en la departamental de Educación dieron información.
