The United States’ special envoy for Latin America, Mauricio Claver-Carone, explains that this matter will be discussed during Marco Rubio’s visit to El Salvador, which will be the second country on his tour of the Central American region.

Mauricio Claver-Carone, the special envoy of the United States for Latin America, confirmed that the presidents of the United States, Donald Trump, and El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, discussed the possibility of reviving an asylum cooperation agreement and the possibility of receiving members of the Tren de Aragua gangs if Venezuela does not take them back.

“In the conversation with the president, we specifically talked about how he could help us once again. In the first administration, we had an asylum cooperation agreement that we want to revive and expand, since President Bukele has been so successful with members of the MS-13 gang, the Mara Salvatrucha, to also include members of the Tren de Aragua gangs,” the official said.

Claver-Carone noted that Bukele is a “great ally” on migration issues.

However, the U.S. envoy for Latin America predicted that Tren de Aragua gang members “will likely want to return to Venezuela rather than have to deal with the maras’ prisons in San Salvador,” and he also confirmed the presence of a Trump adviser in Venezuela this Friday in what he called “not a negotiation” but an “obligation” for Venezuela to accept its criminals.

“These are very profound, very important matters that will be discussed during that trip,” he announced immediately, without elaborating further.

During his visit to Panama, Rubio will focus on the Panama Canal, where there have been warnings of a “strong Chinese influence” that the United States considers a risk not only to U.S. national security but to the entire hemisphere.

On January 23, CBS reported that both leaders were analyzing the possibility of making El Salvador a “safe third country” that would allow it to receive foreign deportees and that “they are considering allowing the United States to deport Venezuelan gang members from the Tren de Aragua to El Salvador,” according to the journalist.

Without referring specifically to the subject, on January 27, Bukele accused the opposition of attacking him based on speculation: “They think they have a chance to win some narrative and they put their meager credibility on the line. We give them a few days and then we reveal the whole game. And they end up looking stupid again,” said the president.

U.S. sends an adviser to Venezuela: “They have to accept them”

Claver-Carone believes that Venezuela has the obligation to accept Venezuelan criminals who are deported from the United States, and that this will be a key issue for a U.S. special envoy who will visit Venezuela today.

“This is not a negotiation; this is delivering an unequivocal message on two points: first, Venezuelan criminals from the Tren de Aragua gang, who must be deported—Venezuela has to accept them. It is their responsibility, just as it is the responsibility of every country in the world. That is non-negotiable, and they must accept it,” he emphasized. He added that, secondly, Venezuela must free and return the American hostages to their country.

“If these demands are not met, there will be consequences from the U.S. government. There’s no negotiation here about oil,” he warned, referring to their position that “the United States doesn’t need Venezuelan oil.”

“My advice to Nicolás Maduro, to Venezuela, is to address these demands and fulfill them; otherwise, there will be consequences. So they should see it as an opportunity.”

El enviado especial de Estados Unidos para América Latina, Mauricio Claver-Carone, detalla que este tema se hablará durante la visita de Marco Rubio a El Salvador, que será el segundo país visitado en su gira por la región centroamericana.

El enviado especial de Estados Unidos para América Latina, Mauricio Claver-Carone, confirmó que los presidentes de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, y El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, conversaron sobre la posibilidad de revivir un acuerdo de cooperación de asilo y de la posibilidad de recibir a miembros de las pandillas del Tren de Aragua si Venezuela no los recibe.

“En la conversación con el presidente, se habló específicamente de cómo nos podía ayudar nuevamente. En la primera administración, teníamos un acuerdo de cooperación de asilo (que) queremos revivir e incluir, ya que ha tenido tanto éxito el presidente Bukele con los miembros de la pandilla MS-13, de la Mara Salvatrucha, a incluir también a los miembros de las pandillas del Tren de Aragua”, dijo el funcionario.

Claver-Carone dijo que Bukele es un “gran aliado” en los temas de migración.

Sin embargo, el enviado de EE.UU. para América Latina auguró que posiblemente los pandilleros del Tren de Aragua “van a querer regresar a Venezuela antes de tener que lidiar con las cárceles de las maras en San Salvador” y, además, confirmó la presencia de un asesor de Trump en Venezuela este viernes en lo que dijo “no es una negociación” sino una “obligación” de Venezuela aceptar a sus criminales.

“Son temas muy profundos, muy importantes, que se hablarán durante ese viaje”, anunció de manera inmediata sin referirse más al tema.

En su visita a Panamá, Rubio se centrará en el Canal de Panamá, en donde han advertido una “fuerte influencia china” que Estados Unidos considera un riesgo no solo para la seguridad nacional de Estados Unidos sino de todo el hemisferio.

El 23 de enero, CBS publicó que ambos mandatarios analizaban la posibilidad de convertir a El Salvador en “tercer país seguro” y permitir recibir deportados extranjeros y que “se está considerando permitir que Estados Unidos deporte pandilleros venezolanos del Tren de Aragua a El Salvador”, explicó el periodista.

Sin referirse específicamente al tema, el 27 de enero, Bukele acusó a la oposición de atacarlo basado en especulaciones: “Piensan que tienen oportunidad de ganar alguna narrativa y ponen su poca credibilidad en la línea de fuego, nosotros les damos unos días y revelamos el juego completo. Y vuelven a quedar como estúpidos”, fueron las palabras del gobernante.

EE.UU. envía a asesor a Venezuela: “Los tiene que aceptar”

Claver-Carone consideró que Venezuela tiene la obligación de aceptar a criminales venezolanos que sean deportados de Estados Unidos y este será un tema precisamente de un enviado especial de Estados Unidos que visitará Venezuela precisamente hoy.

“Esto no es una negociación, esto es trasladar un mensaje inequívoco sobre dos puntos: uno, los criminales venezolanos, de la gang del Tren de Aragua, que tienen que ser deportados, Venezuela los tiene que aceptar, es su responsabilidad, como es la responsabilidad de cada país del mundo, eso no es negociable y tiene que aceptarlo”, enfatizó. Agregó que en segundo lugar Venezuela debe soltar y retornar a los rehenes norteamericanos a su país”.

“Si no se cumple, habrá consecuencias del gobierno de los Estados Unidos, aquí no hay negociación sobre petróleo”, advirtió, en referencia a que consideran que a “a Estados Unidos no le hace falta el petróleo de Venezuela”.

Mi consejo a Nicolás Maduro, a Venezuela, es que atienda esas demandas y que las cumpla, ya que, si no, habrá consecuencias. Así que lo vea como una oportunidad”.
