Representatives of Socorro Jurídico Humanitario reiterated allegations of the existence of such graves at the Izalco prison and urged authorities to investigate this information, which was provided by individuals who were recently released.
“Regrettably, there are burials in clandestine graves, and we have received information that we have publicly, notably, and formally reported regarding cadavers at the Izalco Prison. We urge the competent authorities to investigate this information if it proves to be true,” stated Ingrid Escobar, director of the organization.
Escobar affirmed that they have testimonies from two individuals who were released from Izalco prison. These individuals recounted hearing prison guards instructing convicted inmates to bury the bodies of other inmates in a grave located in phase 3 of the facility.
“We received testimony indicating that convicted inmates are being instructed to bury bodies in clandestine graves at Izalco prison, in a lot behind phase 3,” declared Escobar.
This is not the first time the human rights organization has made these allegations, but so far, the government has remained silent, neither refuting the claim nor informing whether any investigation has been conducted.
Additionally, the organization recommended that the Fiscalía General de la República (Attorney General’s Office) investigate the 345 deaths in state custody documented since the onset of the state of exception until December 15 of this year.
According to data processed by Socorro Jurídico Humanitario, 41% of the deaths showed signs of violent death, 32% were due to lack of medical care, 6% due to terminal illness, 21% cause unknown, and one case was recorded as a suicide.
Eighty-one percent of the deceased were in prisons that also house common criminals, 14% in other prisons, and 4% in the National Civil Police’s detention cells.
“Every person, at least in Izalco and Mariona, received a beating as a welcome upon arrival. Those who survived are telling the story, which is why I’m sharing it; these are testimonies from released victims,” Escobar said.
Organización reitera pedido de investigar fosas clandestinas en penal
Representantes del Socorro Jurídico Humanitario reiteraron la denuncia de la existencia de presuntas fosas clandestinas en el penal de Izalco y pidieron a las autoridades investigar de oficio esa información recibida de personas liberadas.
“Lamentablemente hay entierros en fosas clandestinas y nosotros tenemos información la cual hemos denunciado de manera pública, notoria y formal de cadáveres del Centro Penal de Izalco y pedimos a las instituciones competentes que investiguen de oficio, de ser esta información cierta”, manifestó Ingrid Escobar, directora de esa institución.
Escobar aseguró que tienen el testimonio de dos personas que fueron liberadas del penal de Izalco que ha relatado que escucharon cuando los custodios le ordenaron, a reos condenados, enterrar los cadáveres de otros reos en una fosa en la fase 3.
“Tenemos un testimonio que nos dijo que hay reos condenados a los cuales les han dado indicación de enterrar en fosas clandestinas en el centro penal de Izalco, en un terreno atrás de la fase 3” declaró.
No es la primera vez que esa organización defensora de derechos humanos hace estos señalamientos, pero hasta ahora el gobierno ha guardado silencio al respecto, no ha desmentido la denuncia, ni tampoco ha informado si han realizado alguna investigación al respecto.
Por otra parte, esa organización recomendó a la Fiscalía General de la República investigar las 345 muertes bajo custodia del Estado que ellos han documentado desde que inició el régimen de excepción hasta el 15 de diciembre de este año.
De acuerdo a la información procesada por el Socorro Humanitario el 41% presentaban indicios de muerte violenta, el 32% por falta de atención médica, el 6% por enfermedad terminal, en un 21% la causa es desconocida y han registrado un caso de suicidio.
El 81% de las personas que murieron se encontraban en penales que también albergan reos comunes, el 14% en otros penales y el 4% estaba en bartolinas de la Policía Nacional Civil.
“Todas las personas, por lo menos en Izalco y en Mariona, recibieron de entrada como bienvenida una golpiza, los que sobrevivieron están contando la historia, por eso se los estoy diciendo, porque son testimonios de víctimas liberadas”, dijo Escobar.
