At least 52 workers from the Ministry of Health were dismissed following the march on Saturday, October 19, stated Arístides Pérez, a member of the Sindicato de Trabajadores del Ministerio de Salud Pública y Asistencia Social (SITMSPAS) (Union of Workers of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance), during a radio interview with YSUCA.

Pérez mentioned that 31 hospitals and health units have established the number of employees that will be dismissed due to the government’s fiscal restructuring, and it will not be related to participation in the marches.

“In the 31 hospitals, they already have the dismissal quota, so people, the workers, think that if they go to the march on the 23rd, their job is secured. No, this is a fiscal restructuring that the government is doing, and they don’t have the courage to admit it—in the 31 hospitals and health units, they already have the number of employees they plan to eliminate,” Pérez explained during the interview.

The SITMSPAS representative indicated that the dismissals are arbitrary actions and not solely because of attending the marches. He accused the authorities of taking advantage of the situation to get rid of people who have a critical stance.

“We need to see certain things; it’s not as they want to portray it, that those are the ones who attended the march. We see colleagues who didn’t attend the march; however, they are being dismissed. These are arbitrary actions in this moment of turmoil where there is no freedom for anything, where the authorities are taking advantage of getting rid of people, whether they are union members or not, or whether they participated in the march or not, but rather to eliminate them for having a critical mindset,” Pérez added.

Pérez attributes these dismissals to budget cuts in Health and Education, and the freezing of pay scales in these sectors is due to the government’s self-financing plan for the 2025 budget.

“For the first time in history, we will present a self-financed national budget, but they never said they would finance it with frozen salaries… they didn’t mention self-financing it by freezing 11,000 positions and salary scales,”

Last Sunday, Idalia Zúniga, the general secretary of the Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño (Salvadoran Teachers’ Front), who was dismissed on October 21, counted 46 dismissals in the Health sector.

During the interview, Zúniga detailed that she counted 14 dismissals from the Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño and reiterated that the Education budget for 2024 had initially allocated $90,440,000 for severance, but in July, it was increased to $118 million, which translates to more dismissals.

“Knowing that in Education, for this year’s budget, $90,440,000 was allocated for severance, and these are dismissals. I had calculated that if they gave us between $25,000 and $30,000 like last year, possibly 5,000 teachers and administrative workers from the Ministry of Education would be dismissed, and now they increased it to $118 million in June, meaning more teachers and administrative staff will leave, and they won’t leave with a $25,000 severance,” Zúniga stated.

The representative of the Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño emphasized that the dismissals are due to the government’s poor administration.

Despedidos en Salud suben a 52 y sindicato revela “cuota de despido” en 31 hospitales por “reestructuración fiscal”

Al menos 52 trabajadores del Ministerio de Salud fueron despedidos tras la marcha blanca del pasado sábado 19 de octubre, afirmó el integrante del Sindicato de trabajadores del Ministerio de Salud Pública y Asistencia Social (SITMSPAS), Arísitides Pérez, durante una entrevista de radio YSUCA.

“En Salud, ahorita, de despidos por esta marcha hay 52 compañeros despedidos más que todo quien se ha llevado la mayor parte de atropellos es el Sindicato de Trabajadores del Ministerio de Salud Pública y Asistencia Social (SITMSPAS)”.

Pérez mencionó que en 31 hospitales y unidades de salud poseen la cantidad de empleados que serán despedidos, debido a una reestructuración fiscal por parte del gobierno y que no serán por participar en las marchas.

“En los 31 hospitales ya tienen la cuota de despido, así que la gente, los trabajadores piensan por que, si van a ir a la marcha de este 23 tienen asegurado el trabajo, no, esta es una reestructuración fiscal que está haciendo el gobierno y eso no tiene el valor de decirlo, en los 31 hospitales, y las unidades de salud ya tiene la cantidad de empleados que van a suprimir”, explicó Pérez durante la entrevista.

El representante de SITMSPAS señaló que los despidos son actitudes arbitrarias que no se atribuyen exclusivamente por asistir a las marchas, y acusó a las autoridades de aprovecharse de deshacerse de las personas por tener un sentido crítico.

“Hay que ver ciertas cosas que no es así como lo quieren pintar, de que son los que asistieron a la marcha, vemos que hay compañeros que no asistieron a la marcha, sin embargo, los están despidiendo, son actitudes arbitrarias en este momento de zozobra donde no hay libertad de nada, donde las autoridades están aprovechando de deshacerse de las personas, ya sea sindicalistas o no sindicalistas, o que hayan participado o no en la marcha, sino deshacerse de ella por tener un sentido crítico”, añadió Pérez.

Pérez atribuye estos despidos al recorte al presupuesto de Salud y Educación, y el congelamiento del escalafón a estos dos sectores se debe al autofinanciamiento del gobierno para el presupuesto 2025.

“Por primera vez en la historia presentaremos un presupuesto para la nación autofinanciado, pero nunca dijo que lo iba a financiar con la congelación, … no dijo que lo iba autofinanciar con la congelación de 11,000 plazas y escalafón”.

El pasado domingo, la secretaria general del Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño, Idalia Zúniga, docente que fue despedida el pasado 21 de octubre, contabilizó 46 personas despedidas del sector Salud.

Durante la entrevista, Zúniga detalló que contabiliza 14 despidos del Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño y reiteró que el presupuesto de Educación de este 2024, se tenía previsto para indemnizaciones $90,440,000 y en el mes de julio lo incrementaron a $118 millones, lo que se traduce a más despidos.

“Saber que en Educación para presupuesto de este año, para indemnización había $90,440,000 y estos son despidos, había hecho un cálculo si nos daban entre $25,000 y $30,000 como fue el año pasado, posiblemente se iban 5,000 maestros y trabajadores administrativos del Ministerio Educación y junio le subieron a $118 millones, eso significa que se van a ir más profesores y personal administrativo y no se van a ir con $25,000 de indemnización”, señaló Zúniga.

La representante del Frente Magisterial Salvadoreño señaló que los despidos se deben a la mala administración del gobierno.
