The Committee of Relatives of Political Prisoners of El Salvador (COFAPPES), the Movement of Victims of the Regime (MOVIR), Humanitarian Legal Aid, and the Committee of Relatives Victims of the State of Exception of Bajo Lempa, Jiquilisco, denounced political persecution against organizations working for human rights in El Salvador.
Ivania Cruz, a lawyer and member of COFAPPES, said that each of the organizations has collected evidence from 2022 to date, where they have been able to capture detectives or infiltrated individuals in different activities. Likewise, human rights defender organizations have been victims of harassment and intimidation by agents of the PNC or elements of the military force.
“We are not criminals and we are not willing to normalize this situation, Bukele’s government aims to manipulate with a method of fear and intimidation, which is why organizations have been speaking out about these events,” she emphasized.
Cruz explained that she had access to a PNC document that contained photographs of the organizations’ activities, as well as photographs taken from social media profiles and journalistic notes from media outlets that have covered the marches.

El Comité de Familiares de Presas y Presos Políticos de El Salvador (COFAPPES), el Movimiento de Víctimas del Régimen (MOVIR), Socorro Jurídico Humanitario y el Comité de Familiares Víctimas del Régimen de Excepción del Bajo Lempa, Jiquilisco, denunciaron persecución política contra organizaciones que trabajan por los derechos humanos en El Salvador.
Ivania Cruz, abogada e integrante de COFAPPES, dijo que cada una de las organizaciones han recolectado evidencia desde 2022 hasta la fecha, donde han podido captar a detectives o personas infiltradas en las diferentes actividades. Asimismo, las organizaciones defensoras de derechos humanos han sido víctimas de acosos y hostigamientos, por agentes de la PNC o elementos de la fuerza militar.
“No somos criminales y no estamos dispuestos a normalizar esta situación, el gobierno de Bukele pretende generar una manipulación con un método de miedo e intimidación, a lo cual las organizaciones nos hemos venido pronunciando sobre estos hechos”, enfatizó.
Cruz explicó que tuvo acceso a un documento de la PNC el cual contenía fotografías de las actividades de las organizaciones, así como fotografías tomadas de perfiles de redes sociales y notas periodísticas de los medios que han dado cobertura a las marchas.
