The Vamos, Nuestro Tiempo, and ARENA parties submitted a request for annulment of the Legislative elections and a re-run to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) on Monday, citing irregularities in the process.
Claudia Ortiz, a Vamos lawmaker who would have retained her seat in this election, stated that these elections violated “the principle of not falsifying the popular will.” She added that requesting an annulment is the right move after the vote counting process.
“The entire Salvadoran population has witnessed the anomalies in the electoral process and the casting of votes, including members of the Election Monitoring Boards (JRV), representatives of all parties, and citizens who were there to vote and detected irregularities or abnormalities,” Ortiz said.
Although according to the results released by the TSE, Vamos and ARENA won seats in the Legislative Assembly, they believe it’s necessary to repeat the process.

They also request the recusal of magistrates Guillermo Wellman, Noel Orellana, and Julio Olivo, who they claim made biased decisions. Ortiz argues that the 24-hour deadline after the election for filing an annulment can be met in a normal election.
“The Electoral Code doesn’t say after election day, it says after the election,” she said. She added that the election materialized at 10:04 p.m. on Sunday when the TSE published the website with the final results on social network X.
Andy Failer, president of Nuestro Tiempo, pointed out that they registered 69 anomalies in the electoral process, even before February 4 and until the end of the vote count.

He considered it crucial to send a message to the general public and the international community that the electoral process “is entirely flawed.”
In addition, in light of the upcoming March 3 municipal elections, they demand the dismissal or resignation of the staff of the TSE’s Computer Systems Unit (USI), who are “compromised with the Presidential House,” referring to an investigation by FOCOS that revealed the head of USI worked at the Presidential House. They also request that the data transmission system be part of a closed circuit.
Carlos García Saade, president of the ARENA party, also considered that there was “foul play” in the electoral process and demands a re-run of the Legislative elections.
“It’s because we will always be defenders of democracy and freedom,” he said, and added that they had denounced irregularities even before election day.
On the other hand, the FMLN party announced that it would file a statement with the TSE on Monday afternoon.

Los partidos Vamos, Nuestro Tiempo y ARENA presentaron este lunes ante el Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE) el recurso de nulidad de las elecciones Legislativas y que se repitan, debido a las irregularidades del proceso.
Claudia Ortiz, diputada de Vamos y quien habría mantenido el curul en esta elección, señaló que en estas elecciones se violentó “el principio de no falsear la voluntad popular”. Agregó que pedir la nulidad es lo correcto luego del proceso de escrutinio de papeletas.
“A estado a la luz y a la vista de toda la población salvadoreña, las personas integrantes de Juntas Receptoras de Votos, de los vigilantes de todos los partidos, de la ciudadanía que fue a votar y que detectó irregularidades o anormalidades en el proceso electoral también en su emisión del sufragio”, dijo Ortiz.
Aunque según los resultados divulgados por el TSE, Vamos y ARENA obtuvieron escaños en la Asamblea Legislativa, consideran necesario repetir el proceso.

Además, piden la recusación de los magistrados Guillermo Wellman, Noel Orellana y Julio Olivo, quienes habrían adelantado criterio. Ortiz argumenta que el plazo de 24 horas luego de la elección para presentar la nulidad se puede cumplir con una elección normal.
“El Código Electoral no dice después de la jornada electoral, dice después de la elección”, dijo. Agregó que la elección se materializó a las 10:04 de la noche del domingo cuando el TSE divulgó el sitio web con los resultados finales en la red social X.

Consideró importante enviar un mensaje a la ciudadanía y a la comunidad internacional de que el proceso electoral “está completamente viciado”.
Añadió que de cara a las elecciones municipales del 3 de marzo, piden la destitución o renuncia del personal de la Unidad de Sistemas Informáticos (USI) del TSE “que están comprometidas con Casa Presidencial”, en referencia a una investigación de FOCOS que reveló que el jefe de la USI trabajó en Casa Presidencial. También piden que el sistema de transmisión de datos sea parte de un circuito cerrado.
También Carlos García Saade, presidente del partido ARENA, consideró que “hubo chanchullo” en el proceso electoral y pide repetir las elecciones Legislativas.
“Es porque siempre vamos a ser defensores de la democracia y la libertad”, dijo, y que desde antes de la jornada electoral denunciaron irregularidades.
Por su parte, el partido FMLN anunció que presentaría un escrito antes el TSE en la tarde de este lunes.
