“Do not go down in history, do not set that example for your children, for your family, of being corrupt, of going against the Constitution of the Republic.” These are the words with which Vicente Chopin, a priest from the diocese of San Vicente, urged the judges of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) not to register the presidential candidacy of the current leader.
Chopin’s argument focuses on the fact that seven articles of the Constitution prohibit a second consecutiveterm. That is why he warned that TSE officials could even be prosecuted for endorsing such an unconstitutional action.
According to the electoral calendar, approved by the TSE, the deadline for receiving candidate registration requests is October 26. Last Thursday, during the commencement of operations at the 3 de Febrero Hydroelectric Plant, the Salvadoran president assured that his application will be submitted next week to the highest electoral authority.
However, the religious figure asked the five electoral judges to abstain from signing such a registration.
The theologian also said that if registration occurs, the recourse exists to request the recusal of judges who admit the unconstitutional candidacy of the current president.
Constitutional lawyer Enrique Anaya recently stated that political parties or citizens can already request the recusal of the four TSE judges who signed a statement on September 4, 2021, assuring they will comply with the ruling of the Constitutional Chamber imposed by the ruling party that endorses immediate re-election. The expert emphasized that they “have already expressed an opinion.”
Chopin noted that the current head of state will place himself on the same level as dictator Maximiliano Hernández Martínez if he materializes the presidential re-election in the 2024 elections.
The Tribunal received this Friday the registration application of 14 lists of candidates for deputies to the Legislative Assembly and the Central American Parliament from Nuevas Ideas.
This caused the closure of the passage on 1a Poniente Street and 87th North Avenue in San Salvador, as supporters of the ruling party gathered outside the TSE headquarters, arriving in buses and minibuses. The activity had a strong presence of public security elements due to street closures.
Attendees carried banners with the photo of their candidates next to the current leader’s. This seems to indicate that although several deputies seek re-election, they do not trust their legislative work and continue to lean on the leader’s image. This was pointed out by some of the passersby observing the event and who say they are not happy with the work done by the cyan party.
The presidential and legislative elections will be on February 4 of next year. Municipal and Parlacen elections will be on March 3, 2024.
Sacerdote exhorta a los magistrados del TSE a no inscribir candidatura del presidente actual
“No pasen a la historia, no le den ese ejemplo a su hijos, a su familiares de ser corruptos, de ir en contra la Constitución de la República”. Estas son las palabras con las que el sacerdote de la diócesis de San Vicente, Vicente Chopin, exhortó a los magistrados del Tribunal Supremo Electoral, TSE, a no inscribir la candidatura presidencial del actual mandatario.
El argumento de Chopin se centra en que un segundo mandato consecutivo está prohibido en siete artículos de la Carta Magna. Es por eso que advirtió que los funcionarios del TSE, incluso, pueden ser procesados por avalar dicha acción inconstitucional.
Según el calendario electoral, aprobado por el TSE, la recepción de solicitudes de inscripción de candidatos finalizará el 26 de octubre. El pasado jueves, durante el inicio de operaciones de la Central Hidroeléctrica 3 de Febrero, el presidente salvadoreño aseguró que su solicitud será presentada la próxima semana ante la máxima autoridad electoral.
Sin embargo, el religioso pidió a los cinco jueces electorales que se abstuvieran de firmar tal inscripción.
El también doctor en teología dijo que de darse la inscripción, existe la figura de los recursos, para pedir la recusación de los magistrados que van a admitir la candidatura, inconstitucional, del presidente actual.
El abogado constitucionalista, Enrique Anaya indicó recientemente que los partidos políticos o los ciudadanos ya pueden pedir la recusación de los cuatro magistrados del TSE que firmaron un comunicado, el 4 de septiembre del 2021, en el que se asegura que cumplirán con la resolución de la Sala de lo Constitucional impuesta por el oficialismo y que avala la reelección inmediata. El experto subrayó que ellos “ya adelantaron criterio”.
Chopin remarcó que el actual jefe de Estado se pondrá al mismo nivel del dictador Maximiliano Hernández Martínez, si materializa la reelección presidencial en los comicios de 2024.
El Tribunal recibió este viernes la solicitud de inscripción de las 14 planillas de candidatos a diputados a la Asamblea Legislativa y al Parlamento Centroamericano, por parte de Nuevas Ideas.
Esto ocasionó el cierre del paso sobre la 1a calle Poniente y la 87 Avenida Norte, de San Salvador, debido a que afuera de la sede del TSE se concentraron militantes del partido oficialista, que llegaron en buses y microbuses. La actividad contó con fuerte presencia de elementos de seguridad pública, por los cierres de calle.
Los asistentes portaron pancartas con la foto de sus candidatos junto a la del mandatario actual. Esto parece indicar que a pesar de que varios diputados buscan reelegirse, no confían en su trabajo legislativo ya que se siguen colgando de la imagen del mandatario. Así lo señalaron algunos de los transeúntes que observaban el evento y que dicen no estar contentos con el trabajo realizado por el partido cyan.
Los comicios presidenciales y legislativos serán el 4 de febrero del próximo año. Las elecciones municipales y del Parlacen serán el 3 de marzo de 2024.
