During another early morning legislative session, with 67 votes in favor, seven against, and five abstentions, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved in the early morning of Wednesday, June 14, the fifteenth extension to the state of exception, a measure that suspends constitutional guarantees and has been promoted by Nayib Bukele since March 2022 as a way to combat gangs.
The latest extension of the regime expires tomorrow, June 15. As has been the custom in the plenary, the ruling party approved the extension of the measure hours after the Security cabinet presented the request to the Assembly.
The state of exception has raised alarms in national and international organizations and various sectors of society, which have reported severe human rights abuses and abuses of power by authorities during the 14 months it has been in effect.
Pro-human rights activists have asked the government to suspend the state of exception in which they report arbitrary arrests, stigmatization of people for their appearance or area of residence, torture in prisons, cruel treatment, and even death of people under the custody of the State.
According to data from Socorro Jurídico, in March, when the regime was one year old, more than 60,000 people had been arrested; of these, 3,000 were released because no links to gangs could be proven, in the same period, 126 people were detained under the regime died.

Social organizations have recorded 5,082 human rights violations under the state of exception. Last March,they reported harassment, abuses of authority, and intimidation, among others. Cristosal has counted the death of 153 people arrested during the state of exception.
Entire families have also reported their anguish at not having news of their loved ones whom they claim have been unjustly arrested.
En un “madrugón”, Asamblea aprueba décima quinta prórroga del régimen de excepción
Durante otro “madrugón” legislativo, con 67 votos a favor, 7 en contra y 5 abstenciones, los diputados de la Asamblea Legislativa aprobaron durante la madrugada del miércoles 14 de junio la décima quinta prórroga al régimen de excepción, medida que suspende garantías constitucionales y que ha sido impulsada por Nayib Bukele desde marzo 2022 como forma para combatir a las pandillas.
La última extensión del régimen vence mañana 15 de junio. Como ha sido costumbre en el pleno, la bancada oficialista aprobó la prórroga de la medida horas después de que el gabinete de Seguridad presenta la solicitud a la Asamblea.
El régimen de excepción ha sido levantado las alertas en organismos nacionales e internacionales, y diferentes sectores de la sociedad quienes han denunciado graves atropellos a los derechos humanos y abusos de poder por parte de las autoridades durante los 14 meses que ha estado en vigencia.
Activistas pro derechos humanos han pedido al gobierno que suspenda el régimen de excepción en el cual denuncian se han registrado capturas arbitrarias, estigmatización de personas por su apariencia o zona de residencia, torturas en los centros penales, tratos crueles y hasta muerte de personas bajo custodia del Estado.
Según datos de Socorro Jurídico, en marzo, cuando se cumplía un año del régimen más de 60 mil personas habían sido detenidas, de estas 3 mil fueron liberadas al no poder probárseles vínculos con pandillas, en el mismo periodo 126 personas que fueron detenidas bajo el régimen murieron.
Además, ayer, el Fiscal General, Rodolfo Delgado, confirmó en una entrevista televisiva que 142 personas han muerto bajo la custodia del Estado en centros penales. Añadió que tras las investigaciones fiscales con apoyo de Medicina Legal se habría determinado que las 142 muertes de reos ocurrió porque padecían enfermedades preexistentes, y que no existe delito que perseguir en estos casos, y que, por lo tanto, no investigará dichos casos.
Organizaciones sociales registran 5,082 vulneraciones a derechos humanos en régimen de excepción. En marzo pasado reportaron casos de acoso, abusos de autoridad e intimidación, entre otros. Cristosal ha contabilizado la muerte de 153 personas detenidas durante el régimen de excepción.
Familias completas han denunciado además su angustia al no tener noticias de sus seres queridos que aseguran han sido capturados “de manera injusta”.
