The government of Nayib Bukele needs more than $1,000 million to guarantee the functioning of the State as contemplated in the General Budget of the Nation for 2023 after the Legislative Assembly received a request for authorization from the Executive on Tuesday to seek funds for such purpose.
The exact amount that the GOES requests to be authorized to seek amounts up to $1,139,394,210. According to the correspondence sent to the Finance Committee, the idea is to obtain these funds through the issuance of credit securities, to be placed in the national or international market, by contracting loans, or a combination of both methods.
The revelation of the figure generated questions from economists and legislators since they pointed out that the Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, lied in the 2023 budget presentation last Friday.
“Undoubtedly, the real figure of the budget gap was intentionally omitted; today, the total amount is revealed. The government continues to manage public finances irresponsibly, and the most reprehensible thing is lying to convenience in the discourse, and in the logic of not making transparent nor rendering clear accounts”, indicated Congresswoman Anabel Belloso (FMLN).

El gobierno de Nayib Bukele necesita más de $1,000 millones para garantizar el funcionamiento del Estado según lo contemplado en el Presupuesto General de la Nación para 2023, luego que este martes fuera dada a conocer por la Asamblea Legislativa una solicitud de autorización del Ejecutivo para que puedan buscar fondos para dicho fin.
La cantidad exacta que el GOES pide le sea autorizada buscar asciende hasta $1,139,394,210. Según la pieza de correspondencia que fue enviada a la comisión de hacienda, la idea es obtener estos fondos mediante la emisión de títulos valores de crédito, a ser colocados en el mercado nacional o internacional o por medio de contratación de préstamos, o una combinación de ambos métodos.
La revelación de la cifra generó cuestionamientos de economistas y legisladores, debido a que señalaron que el ministro de Hacienda, Alejandro Zelaya, mintió en la presentación del presupuesto 2023, el pasado viernes.
“Sin duda de manera intencional se obvió decir el dato real de la brecha presupuestaria, este día se revela el monto total. El gobierno sigue manejando irresponsablemente las finanzas públicas y lo más condenable mintiendo a conveniencia en el discurso, y en la lógica de no transparentar ni rendir cuentas claras”, indicó la diputada Anabel Belloso (FMLN).
