The reforms to the Organic Law of the National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN) sent by President Nayib Bukele through the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and approved by the Legislative Assembly in June of this year came into force with changes in the composition of the board of directors and it in provision costs of registry services.
The main modification to the regulations is the assignment of the RNPN to the Ministry of Security, which will now have control of all personal data of the population. This reform was questioned by the opposition, considering that the security entity tasks are not related to those of the registry.
RNPN had been until last Friday an autonomous entity, but with the modification, it is now under the shadow of the Ministry of Security and so far there is no clear justification for the approved measure.

Las reformas a la Ley Orgánica del Registro Nacional de las Personas Naturales (RNPN) enviada por el presidente Nayib Bukele a través del Ministerio de Justicia y Seguridad Pública y aprobadas por la Asamblea Legislativa en junio de este año entraron en vigencia con cambios en la conformación de la junta directiva y en los costos por prestación de servicios del registro.
La principal modificación a la normativa es la adscripción del RNPN al Ministerio de Seguridad, que pasará a tener control de todos los datos personales de la población. Dicha reforma fue cuestionada por la oposición, al considerar que las tareas de la entidad no están relacionadas con las del registro.
El RNPN había sido hasta el pasado viernes una entidad autónoma, pero con la modificación queda bajo la sombra del Ministerio de Seguridad y hasta ahora no hay una justificación clara de la medida aprobada.
