The mechanism being used by the deputies of the political commission of the Legislative Assembly to elect the Human Rights Ombudsman is being developed to find “the person who best fits and coincides with the government” and not the most suitable profile, with integrity, professional capacity, and ethics.
This was stated in declarations to El Diario de Hoy by the executive director of the DTJ Foundation, Xenia Hernádez, who said that the current Assembly, with a majority of the ruling party, “does not commit” to make the second-degree elections transparently.
The interview process to elect the head of the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office began last September 5. In this respect, Hernandez pointed out that the mechanism used by this Assembly “is not to look for the ideal profile, the one who defends the rights of the citizens, but rather it is being developed to find the person who best fits and coincides with the government.”
In this sense, he emphasized that for this reason, it is evident that the candidates for the PDDH will not condemn or talk about the violations that are being committed with the implementation of the regime of exception since they seek to ingratiate themselves with the power and not to be the ones to watch over and defend the rights of the citizens.

El mecanismo que están usando los diputados de la comisión política de la Asamblea Legislativa para elegir al procurador para la defensa de los derechos humanos está siendo desarrollado para encontrar “a la persona que más encaje y coincida con el gobierno” y no al perfil más idóneo, integro, con capacidad profesional y ética.
Así lo señaló en declraraciones a El Diario de Hoy, la directora ejecutiva de la Fundación DTJ, Xenia Hernádez, quien expuso que la Asamblea actual con mayoría del oficialismo “no tiene el compromiso” de hacer las elecciones de segundo grado de manera transparente.
El proceso de entrevistas para elegir al titular de la Procuraduría de Derechos Humanos comenzó el pasado 5 de septiembre, y al respecto, Hernández señaló que es el mecanismo que utiliza esta Asamblea “no es para buscar ese perfil idóneo, el que defienda los derechos de la ciudadanía sino que está siendo desarrollado para encontrar a la persona que más encaje y coincida con el gobierno”.
En ese sentido destacó que por esa razón, es obvio que las y los postulantes a la PDDH no van a condenar o hablar las violaciones que se están cometiendo con la implementación del régimen de excepción, pues buscan congraciarse con el poder y no ser los que velen y defiendan los derechos de la ciudadanía.
