Eneida Abarca, a mother of a 22-year-old man who disappeared last January, denounced the “indifference” of the authorities in the search for her son and the blocking of the case this Thursday.
The young Carlos Santos Abarca disappeared on January 1, 2022, in the Salvadoran capital after leaving his home to exercise; due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was under psychological and psychiatric treatment.
“I want to demand that they help me look for my son and comply with their mandate to investigate so that this case is not just another number,” Abarca stressed. She added that she and her family have “kept looking for him, we have offered clues of his possible whereabouts to the authorities and, despite that, they have done nothing to find him, they have left me alone as a mother.” Abarca called on the Executive of President Nayib Bukele to have “more empathy with the cases of missing persons and to allocate more resources to the authorities to find our children.”

Eneida Abarca, madre de un joven de 22 años desaparecido en enero pasado, denunció este jueves la “indiferencia” de las autoridades para la búsqueda de su hijo y el bloqueo del caso.
El joven Carlos Santos Abarca desapareció el 1 de enero de 2022 en la capital salvadoreña después de salir de su casa para realizar ejercicio y, por los efectos de la pandemia del COVID-19, se encontraba con tratamiento psicológico y psiquiátrico.
“Quiero exigirles que me ayuden a buscar a mi hijo, que cumplan con su mandato de investigar para que este caso no sea una cifra más”, subrayó Abarca. Agregó que ella y su familia lo han “seguido buscando, hemos ofrecido pistas de su posible paradero a las autoridades y, a pesar de eso, no han hecho nada por encontrarlo, me han dejado sola como madre”. Abarca llamó al Ejecutivo del presidente Nayib Bukele a tener “más empatía con los casos de personas desaparecidas y que asigne más recursos a las autoridades para encontrar a nuestros hijos”.
