The resolution of the Constitutional Chamber that opens the door to consecutive presidential re-election is “fraudulent” because the Constitution prohibits it, declared the rector of the Central American University (UCA), Father Andreu Oliva.
“The Constitution not only prohibits re-election but also has an article that says that anyone who promotes re-election will be committing a crime… the Constitution is clear: re-election is prohibited,” the academic explained during the program Encuentro con Julio Villagrán on TVX.
In the opinion of the priest, the resolution “has no legal basis” and instead is a “political decision of a Constitutional Chamber that was imposed on May 1, 2021, by the deputies of the Legislative Assembly and who want to allow President Nayib Bukele to be re-elected.”

La resolución de la Sala de lo Constitucional que abre la puerta a la reelección presidencial consecutiva es “fraudulenta” porque la Constitución la prohíbe claramente, declaró el rector de la Universidad Centroamericana (UCA), padre Andreu Oliva.
“La Constitución no sólo prohíbe la reelección, sino que también tiene un artículo que dice que aquel que promueva la reelección estará cometiendo un delito… la Constitución es clara: la reelección está prohibida”, explicó el académico durante el programa Encuentro con Julio Villagrán en TVX.
A juicio del sacerdote, la resolución “no tiene ningún fundamento jurídico” y más bien es una “decisión política de una Sala de lo Constitucional que fue impuesta el 1 de mayo de 2021 por los diputados de la Asamblea Legislativa y que quieren regalarle al presidente Nayib Bukele la oportunidad de reelegirse”.
