The vice-president wrote on Twitter: “The saying goes: ‘You should not spend ammo on petty birds’. But for this time only and to unmask those activists disguised as journalists.” — El vicemandatario escribió en Twitter: “Dice el refrán: ‘No hay que gastar pólvora en zanates’. Pero por esta única vez y para desenmascarar a esos activistas disfrazados de periodistas.”

Additionally, he attached to the tweet a release from the “ad hoc” team in charge of the proposals for a new constitution where they assure the process was transparent and that “the pseudo-journalists of Gato Encerrado never requested information regarding the process or showed any interest to participate in it”.

However, the editor of Gato Encerrado, Ezequiel Barrera, said to El Diario de Hoy (EDH) that all recordings and minutes of all work sessions from the “ad hoc” team were requested through the Public Information Access Unit (UAIP) of the Presidency, which declared the request inadmissible.

Barrera signals that the release from the vice-president also incites violence against journalists since the texts alludes to physical harm. In a paragraph of the release, it says: “Therefore the beating that readers will give them for liars and fakes will translate into what the title of this statement announces: from Gato Encerrado (locked cat) they will now be known as GATO APALEADO (beaten cat)”.

Además, publicó un comunicado del equipo ad hoc para el estudio y propuesta de reformas a la Constitución de la República donde asegura que el proceso fue transparente y que “los pseudoperiodistas de Gato Encerrado jamás solicitaron información sobre el proceso o indicaron su interés por participar en el mismo”.

Sin embargo, el editor de la Revista Gato Encerrado, Ezequiel Barrera, dijo a El Diario de Hoy que se solicitó las actas y grabaciones de todas las reuniones de las mesas de trabajo del equipo ad hoc, pero la Unidad de Acceso a la Información Pública (UAIP) de Casa Presidencial declaró inadmisible tal solicitud.

Barrera señala que en el escrito compartido por el funcionario incita a atacar a los periodistas pues se hace alusión a golpes. Se refiere al párrafo del escrito que dice: “Por lo que el varapalo que los lectores les propinarán por mentirosos y falsarios se traducirá en lo que el título de esta nota anuncia: de Gato Encerrado pasarán a ser conocidos como GATO APALEADO”.
