The Salvadoran Attorney General elected illegally by the Legislative Assembly controlled by a majority of president Bukele’s party Nuevas Ideas, presented his candidacy to be reelected for another 3 years term. His election in the night of May 1st, 2021, is considered illegal, because that same night the Assembly removed previous Attorney General Raúl Melara. Both procedures violated the rules established by the law. 

Mr. Delgado’s term end in January 2022 and the new Attorney General has to be elected in December 2021 for another 3 years. 

The election as chief prosecutor of Mr. Delgado, a former associate prosecutor accused of domestic violence and known as a personal fried of president Bukele’s Secretary of Security, has been criticized by the Biden administration and the US embassy, which has withdrawn all technical and financial support of the General Attorneys Office headed by Mr. Delgado.

El fiscal general de facto Rodolfo Delgado, quien fue nombrado por la Asamblea Legislativa el 1 de mayo 2021, presentósu candidatura para reelegirse. Su elección es considerado ilegal, porque esta misma noche la Asamblea removió al fiscal general Raúl Melara. Ambos procedimientos no se hicieron guardando las reglas establecidas por ley. El mandato de Delgado termina en enero 2022, y en diciembre tiene que elegirse el nuevo fiscal general por un mandato de tres años.

El nombramiento de facto del fiscal general, un ex fiscal acusado de violencia familiar y señalado amigo personal del ministro de Seguridad Gustavo Villatoro, fue criticado por la embjada de Estados Unidos que suspendió toda colaboración con la Fiscalía General dirigida por Delgado.
