In response to the needs reported by residents of the Valle Verde 1 and 2 neighborhoods in Apopa, San Salvador Oeste, regarding the lack of decent water service, which they have not had for approximately 20 years, ARENA party lawmaker Marcela Villatoro requested a change to the agenda to introduce a formal request on the floor of the Legislative Assembly to address the issue.
Villatoro indicated that families in Valle Verde informed her of the difficulties they face in getting water and of the request for help they submitted to the San Salvador Oeste mayor’s office, but that they have not been heard.
The lawmaker is seeking to have the Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA) and the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA) help provide drinking water service to the residents of the Valle Verde neighborhood.
The lawmaker noted that people from the community informed her that, despite a peaceful march demanding improved drinking water service, they have received no response from local authorities, so they hope the Legislative Assembly will act in favor of the citizens’ needs.
Lawmaker Reynaldo Cardoza of the National Concertation Party (PCN) stated that the distribution company AMPO is in the process of transferring the wells it owns to ANDA.
Villatoro pointed out that the company does not have the capacity to provide service to the neighborhoods. She indicated that, regardless of whether the company is in a transition, the ASA must support the residents, and if the number of water trucks delivering water to the neighborhood is not enough, the assistance must be increased.
Villatoro’s request to change the agenda was not approved on the floor, receiving only two votes in favor.
Solicitud para atender falta de agua en Apopa no obtiene respaldo de diputados oficialistas
Ante las necesidades denunciadas por los habitantes de la colonia Valle Verde 1 y 2, de Apopa, San Salvador Oeste, sobre la falta de un servicio de agua digno que no reciben desde hace aproximadamente 20 años, la diputada Marcela Villatoro, del partido ARENA, solicitó una modificación de agenda para ingresar una pieza de correspondencia en el pleno de la Asamblea Legislativa con el fin de solucionar la problemática.
Villatoro indicó que las familias de Valle Verde le informaron sobre las dificultades que enfrentan para conseguir agua y la solicitud de ayuda que han presentado en la alcaldía de San Salvador Oeste, pero que no se les ha escuchado.
La diputada busca que la Autoridad Salvadoreña del Agua (ASA) y la Administración Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (ANDA) ayude a proporcionar el servicio de agua potable a los habitantes de la colonia Valle Verde.
La diputada señaló que las personas de la comunidad le informaron que pese a una marcha pacífica en la que exigieron que se mejore el servicio de agua potable, no han tenido respuesta de las autoridades locales, por lo que esperan que la Asamblea Legislativa actué en favor de las necesidades de los ciudadanos.
El diputado del Partido de Concertación Nacional (PCN), Reynaldo Cardoza, aseguró que la empresa distribuidora AMPO se encuentra en una tramitación para trasladar los pozos que posee a ANDA.
Villatoro señaló que la empresa no tiene la capacidad para entregar el servicio a las colonias. Indicó que independientemente de que la empresa este en una transición, la ASA debe apoyar a los habitantes, y si la cantidad de pipas que entregan agua a la colonia no es suficiente se debe reforzar la ayuda.
La solicitud de modificación de agenda de Villatoro no fue aprobada por el pleno, obteniendo solo dos votos a favor.
